YouTube streamer Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins Jr. claimed that he completed a 100-meter sprint in 10.5 seconds. He shared a clip where professionals hand-timed his record, but his claims have drawn online criticism. Many internet users pointed out that hand-timing is often inaccurate and he should consider adding 0.2 seconds to his record.

Hand timing refers to the old-school method of measuring speed in sports. People use stopwatches to track speeds which is often inaccurate. Electronic timing is the more popular option right now, where professionals use touchpads or chips to track speeds. According to a study published in the United States National Library of Medicine, hand-timing can lead to inaccuracies of up to 0.2 seconds. Many internet users asked Speed to sprint again and record his time electronically for a more accurate result.

IShowSpeed recently challenged Olympic champion Sha’Carri Richardson to a race. Her current record for a 100-meter spring is 10.55 seconds, which means that Speed potentially beat her record. The streamer plans to publish proof of his record soon and he might challenge Richardson to a race.

IShowSpeed Wants to Train With Olympic Champion

Sha’Carri Richardson won the 4x100m relay race at the 2024 Paris Olympics and IShowSpeed has wanted to race her ever since. When Richardson won a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics, news reports talked about how she was faster than soccer player Kylian Mbappé. Speed is one of Mbappé’s biggest fans and he responded:

“I gotta race Sha’Carri Richardson, y’all, alright? I’m not gonna cap. Chat, we gotta set that up. There’s no way she’s faster than Mbappé, bro. She is? How do y’all know this though? She’s not faster than me, though. Me and her gotta race.”

He finally met Richardson on February 8, 2025, at a National Football League (NFL) event, but she declined to race him. She said:

“Do an Olympian track workout and then we gonna have a race. But you gotta do an Olympian track workout. You say you gonna be in the 2028 (Olympics) right baby? You say you gonna be in 2028? Alright bet.”

Speed accepted her offer and said he would train and challenge her again in Texas. He might collaborate with the sprinter for an upcoming livestream in an attempt to beat her record.

Speed Previously Raced Noah Lyles For $100,000 and Lost

While IShowSpeed fans are excited about a potential race against Richardson, many think he will lose. Speed raced against Olympic champion Noah Lyles in a MrBeast video for $100,000 and lost.

Speed lost the race and also an opportunity to raise $100,000 for charity. Lyles made the streamer change his name to “IShowSlow” temporarily. Speed said he wanted to rematch but the Olympic champion declined.

Readers should note that Noah Lyles is much faster than IShowSpeed with a personal 100-meter track record of 9.79 seconds. While Speed has seemingly improved in recent months, he has still not matched up to Lyles yet.
