Learn how to use Regieleki in the Pokemon VGC format based on James Baek’s 2025 Pokemon World Championships build.

Regieleki is not a conventional choice for the Pokemon VGC format. Sure, it’s the fastest Pokemon to have been created with a base Speed stat of 200, but being able to outspeed everything isn’t everything, especially in a format where there are two opponents to consider. However, this makes James Baek’s decision to use a Regieleki on his 2025 Worlds team, which also included a Quiver Dance Volcarona, worth noting.
As such, it’s worth taking a look at this innovative Pokemon choice.
What Is the Build of James Baek’s Regieleki?

James picked Regieleki mainly because of its Speed, which lets it outspeed even common Choice Scarf users. However, Regieleki is also very frail, which is why he gave it a Focus Sash as a held item. A Focus Sash ensures that Regieleki will survive one hit from full HP. Finally, thanks to its ability Transistor, as well as an Electric Tera type, Regieleki’s Electric-type moves hit really hard.
Moves Used by James Baek’s Regieleki
Another of Regieleki’s drawbacks is its lack of any coverage outside of a few Normal-type moves and Ancient Power. However, it does have different Electric-type moves capable of different effects, which James had in mind. The first move slot goes to Thunderbolt as a standard STAB single-target move.
James went with Electroweb for his second move, which not only hits both targets but lowers their Speed by one stage. Volt Switch makes the third slot a switch move. Finally, James had Protect in the final move slot to ensure that the Focus Sash wouldn’t be destroyed by opposing Fake Out users.
Which Pokemon is Regieleki Good Against?
As an Electric-type, Regieleki’s STABs do massive damage to Water-types like Kyogre and Urshifu Rapid Strike. Also, in cases where two of the same Restricted Legendaries end up facing off against each other in a mirror match, Regieleki can use Mirror Match to ensure that yours goes faster.
Teammates for Regieleki

- Fake Out users: Regieleki benefits from Fake Out on its side of the playing field. This lets it safely use Electroweb without its Focus Sash being compromised. Common choices include Incineroar, Rillaboom, and Iron Hands.
- Miraidon: Miraidon sets up Electric Terrain with its ability Hadron Engine. This gives a further boost to Regieleki’s Electric-type attacks.
