In Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, you will be facing other pirates in naval battles a lot. However, they are not the only ones that lurk in the seas. Early in the story, you might catch some hints that a Giant Squid might have caused Goro’s shipwreck in the first place. This is no rumor, and eventually, Majima will face off against this monster of the sea.

You will have the opportunity to take revenge against the creature on your quest to find the Esperanza treasure. So, now we will tell you everything you need to know to defeat the Giant Squid Boss.

To find the Giant Squid’s location, first, you will need to defeat Mortimer and free Tucker from his prison. After that, speak to him and start the Esperanza Treasure hunt. When you reach the location of the treasure, Tucker will ask you to fire your cannons on the island’s edge to open the secret entrance. Your cannons won’t just open the entrance; the aftershock from the blast will also awaken the Giant Squid from its slumber. It is the guardian of the island and the treasure.

Defeat the Giant Squid

The squid will first reveal its tentacles from the sea and come up in front of the island. However, the moment the battle begins, it will submerge beneath the depths again, only to rise in a different area. After it reveals its full self, use the ship’s machine guns and fire at the tentacles while dodging the incoming attacks.

The tentacles will be the easiest area for you to target, so keep your fire focused on them. After you have done enough damage and taken the first two tentacles out, it is time for more firepower. Switch to your cannons and start hitting the Squid’s eyes. They are pretty big, so you will land a lot of hits if you aim well. However, firepower alone is not enough. The most crucial aspect of naval battles is the positioning of your ship, so we recommend using your boost and drifting skills to keep changing your position to find better angles and avoid the Squid’s attacks.

A Good Defence Is Its Own Reward

Only offensive aggression is not enough, and you will have to defend your ship as well. In order to do so, you must learn the Giant Squid’s attack pattern first. The boss does not have a lot of attack variety, so learning all of the attacks won’t be difficult at all. Additionally, keep a lookout for red blips that appear on the surface right before the squid emerges from the water. Your ship is quite agile, so you will have enough time to avoid it.

After you have entered the second phase, the squid will add an additional ink attack to its arsenal. It will shoot the ink in a straight line, so dodging it is quite easy if you use your Fuel Tank Boosts. But the best defensive strategy is to prepare ahead for your battle, so we will list some of the Goromaru upgrades you should invest in before fighting the Giant Squid Boss:

  • Repairs
  • Laser Canons
  • Upgrade your Fuel Tanks
  • Max out the Hull Durability to extreme

You can visit Julie’s Gearworks to implement these upgrades to your ship. Now that the ship is prepared, let’s take a look at the crew because Goromaru is only as good as the people in it. The game has a lot of great choices for potential recruits, including the likes of Misaki, Elizabeth, and The Bartender. So, create a strong pirate crew to aid you in the boss fight.

End the Giant Squid’s Reign

Once you start damaging the squid, it will try to do a mortar-like attack. When it does that, avoid the warning markers that appear on the surface of the sea to prevent heavy damage to your ship. However, the squid won’t stop there, and if you keep avoiding its attacks, it will try to hit you with four consecutive medium-range attacks. Additionally, to do the maximum damage possible, we recommend that after firing one set of cannons, you quickly switch sides and use the other set while the first cannons recharge.

Lastly, the Giant Squid Boss fight will end after three or four rounds, depending on your effectiveness on the battlefield. After defeating the Squid, head into the treasure entrance to collect your prize.
