After popular streamer and YouTuber Ludwig debuted his VTuber avatar, he faced criticism from the community.
After losing a challenge against popular VTuber Ironmouse in 2021, Ludwig had to debut his VTuber avatar as the forfeit. The streamer has finally debuted his avatar after three years but was met with a lot of criticism stemming from the VTuber community. The streamer uploaded a video on YouTube explaining the VTuber’s lore, titled “this video took 3 years to make.” Although some of the big VTubers in the community welcomed Lud as their own, a few voiced their opinions against the streamer:
“The amount of vtubers cheering this saddens me. We need to gatekeep against people that would bastardize a medium.”

The streamer revealed his avatar’s lore and their name to be the same as his, except it was pronounced as “Loodvig” instead. The VTuber is in their mid-20s and was born on September 11, 2001. Ludwig works in a convenience store called “Ne-konbini” by day and streams on the internet by night. The model is based on a cat-maid appearance and has several features of a cat, including a tail and ears.
VTuber Momma Occo argued that VTubers should gatekeep VTubing against people who would “bastardize” the community. Momma Occo also stated that Ludwig was not welcome in the VTuber community.
Ludwig Responds to the Backlash After VTuber Debut
After receiving significant backlash from the VTuber community, Ludwig responded to Momma Occo. The streamer stated that he thinks VTubers are cool and that he tried his best during the debut stream. VTubers are known to host debut events for their avatars, which reveal their lore and background. In his reply, Lud stated:
“I’m sorry you think I bastardized the entire medium I think vtubers are cool and I tried my best during my debut stream! I know I don’t understand as much as native vtubers so I tried to make it faithful to what a debut stream should be while also making it fun for my regular audience.”

The events usually feature high-quality production and a stream dedicated to the new avatar. However, Ludwig’s approach was a little different. The streamer explained how his debut and the VTuber avatar came to life after the forfeit given by Ironmouse. He also addressed the community calling him out for the model design. Ludwig stated that he disagrees with anyone who insults them. The streamer said that he hopes more people check out VTubers after his debut. In his response, Lud wrote:
“I think the model art and rigging was really good and massively disagree with anyone who is insulting them Ultimately, this was challenge given to me by ironmouse and I had a lot of fun navigating it (even though it took 3 years) and hope more people check out vtubers because of it Im also sorry to say but lewdvig will be returning.”
