Madden NFL 26 is the latest yearly football release from EA. It comes with all of the game modes and features that you’d expect from the title, based on previous years’ releases. However, the developers have also added a bunch of cool new stuff for players to experience. While some of these are smaller or more minor tweaks, other changes have gameplay altering possibilities.

An example of these major changes this year is the introduction of a new player position dubbed GAD, which is short for Gadget. In the following guide, we’ll explore how GAD in Madden NFL 26 can impact your overall gameplay experience significantly.

Football players have specific positions that they play in, and they cannot simply change these positions depending on the situation. For instance, a QB cannot simply start to play as an RB, or vice versa. That’s because each position requires players to have a specific set of skills. The same restrictions applied to Madden NFL until this year’s iteration. The Gadget position does away with much of this rigidity, allowing for more versatility in players. So, players with the GAD tag can switch between two or more positions. For instance, if a QB has the GAD tag, they may also be able to play as WRs. Similarly, TEs can swap their position to become RBs.

As you might have noticed, the GAD tag only allows players to switch between positions that have somewhat similar stat combinations, even though they aren’t the exact same. However, the stats of a GAD QB will never be nearly as high as some of the best Quarterbacks in this year’s game, such as Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.

Since most teams won’t have access to 99 OVR players, this shouldn’t really be too much of an issue. The primary goal of GAD is to allow you to mix and match a player’s position, ensuring greater versatility. One of the prime examples of a good GAD player is Travis Hunter. His primary position is that of an offensive CB, where his stats are pretty high. However, he also has a defensive stat that’s around the 70 mark. This makes him a great candidate to dominate in both the offensive and defensive positions.

Restrictions for GAD in Madden NFL 26

By now, you might be wondering one thing. If players can switch positions freely, won’t that make the feature feel overpowered? It could have if EA didn’t take some precautions with it. To balance the GAD feature, there are certain restrictions in the game. Firstly, GAD players are extremely rare, and most teams won’t have one in their roster. Only the top teams might recruit these players at the start of a season. So, even if you want to, you simply won’t be able to use GAD players all that often.

Secondly, all GAD players have a primary and secondary position of play. The stats for the secondary positions won’t nearly be as high as their primary stats. So, if a GAD player has a primary QB role, their WR stat will be considerably lower. So, even with a GAD player, you’ll most often want them to play in their primary positions. Only in emergencies will you consider switching them over to their secondary roles. So, both of these restrictions should ensure that you cannot overuse the feature while playing.
