Mafia: The Old Country is an UE5-powered 1900s-style open-world game, fully action-packed and a crime shooter. However, upon its release on August 8, 2025, it became clear how demanding this title is on the PC side of things. But for the PS5 Pro and the PS5, the experience is mostly stable without many issues.

That said, the settings below will help you get the most out of your playthrough, focusing on a balance between quality and visuals.

Before beginning, you need to ensure that your monitor or TV supports VRR (Variable Refresh Rate). Once that is confirmed, enable it, and then set your console to 120Hz. Doing all of this will ensure you get the best motion fluidity.

Next, enable V-Sync on both the TV and the console to minimize screen tearing, particularly in cutscenes and fast-paced action scenes. Now, depending on your tonal preference, set graphics mode to performance, so that your framerates can reach a max of up to 60 FPS, resulting in a rewarding, fast-paced combat.

If you prefer quality mode, enable motion blur to prevent the 30FPS framerate from feeling sluggish. Remember, you need to complete all VRR and Vsync settings, which we mentioned earlier.

Thankfully, the beefier GPU within the PS5 Pro enables gamers to enjoy high-quality gaming and experience a stable 35-40 FPS in most scenes. However, if you like more FPS, the performance mode is there for you. On the PS5 Pro, you’ll also need to enable 120Hz mode and turn on VRR, which obviously depends on your monitor/TV’s capabilities. Then again, doing so will help you get the best motion fluidity, as you’ll be riding a horse frequently in the game.

Understanding Graphics Modes

Performance mode and Quality mode are the two options you can go for here. Performance mode targets an average of 60FPS for motion fluidity, best for fast-paced combat or fast-paced movement.

Quality Mode, as usual, aims for a higher resolution, resulting in a more detailed image with improved shadows and reflections. As for framerates, you can expect them to average around 30FPS on the PS5. On the PS5 Pro, the quality mode hits more than 30 FPS, including high-action combat, making the game look and play much better than on the PS5.

Below are some additional gameplay suggestions that can help make the game more enjoyable. These are optional steps; you can use them as a starting point and customize to your liking.

  • Difficulty: Normal or Medium – Use this if you are a new player, and chances are that you might get overwhelmed by the default difficulty and combat.
  • Aim Assist: 0.55 works best, but you can change this to your liking.
  • Driving Control: You can turn off Manual Shifting and Simulation Driving for arcade-style handling. Shifting driving and riding is totally up to you.
  • Camera Options: Disable Camera Shake if you have motion sickness. Set the Vehicle Camera View to Near, and enable Camera Follow for the horse, feet, and vehicle movement. As for the FOV, it’s totally up to you.
  • HUD and Accessibility: You can scale HUD elements to your preference and enable subtitles, as well as explore colorblind options if needed.
