The Mafia series has always stood out from others in the genre of open-world games. This is due to its deep and rich storytelling, immersive world-building, and a bundle of character drama infused within. It is set around the same theme as The Godfather, giving it a grim and eerie nature, following the rise, fall, and struggles involved in the life of a mob. Let us look at what we know about the new upcoming edition in the series, Mafia: The Old Country.
Mafia: The Old Country Gameplay Trailer
Mafia’s upcoming game was first teased on August 20 at the end of Gamescom 2024. Since then, it has been sending waves of tingling excitement down the spines of fans of this spectacular series, especially since the last title from this franchise, Mafia 3, was released back in 2016. Also, unlike the other titles from this series, this one will not proclaim to be the fourth. This is because Mafia: The Old Country plays out as a prequel, dating back before the events that transpired in Mafia 1.
We will also be heading back to the fictional town of San Celeste, which was introduced in Mafia 2. Mafia: The Old Country, being a prequel, exempts the requirement of playing the other installments in the franchise. This is because the story does not have a direct connection. However, I would highly recommend playing each game to help familiarize yourself with the themes of the stories, the game mechanics, and getting a general idea of what the series is all about.
Release Dates Announced
As confirmed from a recent Steam blog post, Mafia: The Old Country will release on August 8, 2025. As the date starts creeping closer, fans are excited to get a sneak peek of what is to come. To answer these burning questions, 2K Games has finally come out and addressed our curiosities.
As per a Twitter post by the Mafia Game Twitter page, two major events are set to be revealed in the month of May. On May 8, 2025, the official gameplay trailer is set to drop at 11:00 AM ET / 04:00 PM BST. Not only that, but we will also be an audience to the PAX East developer panel at 03:00 PM ET / 07:00 PM BST.
