Before the main story begins, there is the Mafia The Old Country Tremory, aka the prologue. It gives us a glimpse of Enzo’s early life in the suffocating mines before he enters the Torrisi family and embarks on a life of crime. Furthermore, this section mostly contains a few collectibles and a lot of tutorials. It mainly serves as a launching pad for the campaign and gives players a glimpse of the mechanics that they will get to use in future chapters. Here is a comprehensive walkthrough of it.

Mafia The Old Country Tremori (Prologue) Overview

The prologue in Mafia The Old Country does have stealth segments, character interactions, and some story elements, but it is largely dry on set-pieces and heavy progression that the following chapters hold. However, all of it is natural since Tremori is meant to be a starting point for the entire game. As we mentioned, it is also a bit tutorial-heavy, but all of it is engaging and not just text on the screen. Let’s break it down further below.

Get to the Surface

Tremori starts with Enzo and his companion, Gaetano, venturing inside the mines. Just like every other game in the modern era, you move the protagonist with the WASD keys on PC and the left analog stick on the console. With that said, the path in this mission is linear and does not provide optional content or many explorable areas.

After following Gaetano a little, you will find some rubble blocking your way. Interact with it to find some money and a wooden toy with Enzo’s name on it. Then keep following the path until you reach a piece of wood on your way. Vault over it and continue, and soon you will find a Notice of Mine Decommissioned on a plank to the right.

Read it and then move along and climb the ladder to reach the objective marker. Once you are up, the objective will show “Get to the Surface.” Simply follow the crowd and the sunlight to find an exit from the mines. Soon, you will trigger a cutscene and meet II Merlo for the first time, abusing a miner. Once it ends, carry the things given to you out to the surface.

Once you are out of the mines, leave the basket on the pile to your right, and keep following Gaetano. Remember to grab the Saints’ Card from the shrine to your right before you interact with Ignazio.

Sneak into the Storehouse

After your brief conversation with the NPC, your new objective will be to sneak into a storehouse so you can steal some food. This is a stealth segment, and you must avoid detection at all costs. The game holds the hands of the players here; thus, you should not have too much trouble. Simply follow the instructions and take cover whenever required.

Once the first guard moves away from his position, make your way to the marked gap. On the other side of it is the Stakeholder Friction note. Collect it and then proceed to the next area by crawling under the cart. There, you will find another guard blocking the path. However, Gaetano will distract the NPC and help you out here.

Then, go to the wooden gate and move past it to enter the storehouse. After that, make your way to the marked table and grab the knife to use it to break the lock on the next door. You will find a letter and a delivery invoice in the next room on your left. After collecting the items, open the big blue wooden crate in the room to find the food you are looking for.

Once it is done, make your way to the marked hole in the wall and escape. Furthermore, you will find Gaetano on the other side. Follow him to the bunkhouse, but get the Notice – Extra Shifts by the door before entering.

Search for the Missing Miners

Inside the bunkhouse, a cutscene will occur, and once it ends, you will get your new objective: Search for the missing miners. Simply then follow II Merlo back into the mines, get a lantern, and then follow Gaetano on the linear path. Eventually, you will discover a blocked door; be sure to grab the Deposits – East Mine from it.

Then, turn left and vault over the blockade to progress the prologue. In the new area, you will find many strange things, such as empty water stash, miners’ tools, and fallen ladders. Furthermore, once you get close to the end of the path, you will find Catarina’s Letter. Shortly after, you will find the dead bodies of the miners you were looking for.

However, at the moment of this discovery, the mine will start to collapse because of the gas. The moment you get control back over Enzo, he starts running in the way you came from, and also remember to vault over whatever obstacle you may encounter.

Defeat II Merlo

Once out of the mines, Enzo will confront II Merlo. This will result in the game’s first knife duel. The fighting in this segment will not be extraordinary. Although the game gives you some controls for the duel, it explains them in later chapters. Thus, simply follow the instructions once more and press the buttons displayed on your screen.

Keep slashing and thrusting at your rival to deal damage. A cutscene will occur once II Merlo’s health depletes, which will end the fight. Then, run towards the objective marker and grab the horse there to make your escape from the sulfur mines, as well as Mafia The Old Country Prologue.
