Marvel Rivals faced an unexpected server outage on February 25, 2025. Usually, when the game takes down its servers, it announces it everywhere to keep the players prepared and not waste their precious time. This time around, however, things were a bit different. On the said date, around 2:30 AM UTC, the servers went down for the game across many regions, and the players queueing for the game faced unexpected delays. In my experience, I stayed in a queue for 16 minutes before I switched over to a different game.

NetEase Games didn’t explain the reasons behind this server outage but finally brought them online again. Players who have been waiting for the servers to come online can now log in to the game. They will also find a surprise waiting for them in their in-game mail.

The team behind the 6v6 hero shooter revealed that they will be compensating the affected players 200 Units. The best part? Players who were offline during the outage will also get these 200 Units in their in-game mail! NetEase Games did this to appreciate everyone’s patience.

People who were already in a match, all disconnected. We are not sure whether they will lose points for the same, but either way, the Units might help them forgive the game for this accident.

Developers Give Us a New Way of Earning Units

Units are the blue currency in Marvel Rivals. It is one out of the two currencies you need to buy cosmetics and cosmetic bundles from the in-game Store. The other is Chrono Tokens that can only be spent on the Battle Pass.

While players can easily obtain Chrono Tokens by completing daily challenges, Units are a bit hard to come by. These can only be acquired by buying them using Lattice, completing Seasonal Events, and the Achievements in your Career Overview section.

Their scarcity is where Marvel Rivals’ monetization comes in. However, to incentivize the players who buy the Luxury Battle Pass, the developers introduced a fourth method to obtain Units. As of Season 1.5, players can convert their leftover Chrono Tokens to Units. Although the exact exchange rate for the same is unknown, it will be an effective method for Luxury Battle Pass users to obtain Units starting with Season 2.
