Ensure your enemies’ extermination with the help of this detailed Ultron guide in Marvel Rivals. Here’s how to play the new Strategist.

Marvel Rivals has finally introduced Ultron to the roster. The new Strategist ignites the battle starting on May 30, 2025. This marks the beginning of Season 2.5. It’s not the same Ultron who went on to take over Arakko. On the contrary, it’s a variant of the villain who is working with our heroes for his own selfish motives. He is not the most difficult character to play, but learning about him can help you master the intended playstyle.
Ultron’s Abilities in Marvel Rivals
ABILITIES | EFFECT |
Encephalo-Ray (Primary) | Unleash a burning energy beam. |
Nano Ray (Team-up) | Iron Man uses nanotechnology to upgrade Ultron’s arsenal, enhancing his Encephalo-Ray to Nano Ray. During its active phase, Ultron fires an unstoppable Nano Ray straight ahead that pierces through all characters, delivering massive damage to enemies while simultaneously restoring health to allies. |
Rage of Ultron (Ultimate) | Summon Ultron Drones to fire Encephalo-Rays, damaging enemies or healing allies. |
Dynamic Flight | Fly quickly in the direction of movement and then enter an Accelerated state. |
Imperative: Patch | Command a giant drone to follow an ally, constantly healing allies within its radius, with more healing for the designated ally. |
Imperative: Firewall | Summon drones to grant Bonus Health to allies within range, centered on himself and the ally marked by the Imperative: Patch. |
How To Play Ultron in Marvel Rivals
Ultron Mobility

The supreme machine is the first flying Strategist on the roster. As a result, his mobility is way better than many walking heroes like Adam Warlock. So, he can move anywhere on the Y-axis like Iron Man, Storm, and Human Torch as per his will. Moreover, if he wishes to boost his movement, he can use his dash ability to dash in the moving direction and start moving at increased speed for six seconds after that. This is all he has got in terms of mobility.
Ultron Playstyle and Combos

When it comes to “combos”, Ultron doesn’t have any. He only has one primary fire. Apart from that, his team up “Stark Protocol” grants his primary fire infinite ammo and allows it the ability to heal as well. It has a 30s cooldown. He also has a dash that gives him overhealth and a firewall ability that does the same. Apart from that, he has a healing drone for his allies.
The primary playstyle that you need to concern yourself with is far from the enemy team and focusing on their squishy characters. Since he can’t self-heal except for being in the drone radius, he must stick with the ally who has the healing drone. It has no cooldown, so you can switch it whenever.
Ultron’s Survivability

The new Strategist has a max HP of 250. Dashing and firewall ability give you 75 and 85 overhealth, respectively. However, both of these abilities are on cooldown. Moreover, his self-healing is not that impressive. Ultron can only heal himself when his drone is placed on a nearby ally and he is within its sphere.
So, if an enemy Hela catches him flying above, his survivability wouldn’t be that good. But overall, he can survive longer compared to other flying DPS characters like the Human Torch, Storm, and Iron Man.
Best Team Composition with Ultron in Marvel Rivals
ROLE | HERO |
Vanguards | Doctor Strange |
Duelists | Iron Man, Human Torch |
Strategists | Luna Snow, Ultron, Cloak & Dagger |
Doctor Strange will be the anchor tank to protect the healers on the ground and make space for the team. Luna Snow and Cloak & Dagger will be able to provide healing to everybody on land and in the sky. Luna Snow is a hitscan hero who will have no trouble healing the aerial heroes, while Dagger has a “lock on” primary healing.
Iron Man and Human Torch must stick with Ultron in the air to keep themselves healed. They can be anti-dive when needed, taking out heroes like Black Panther or Magik from the air. Constant healing from Ultron drones will also increase their productivity.
Ultron Counters in Marvel Rivals

The main characters who can hard counter Ultron are:
- Adam Warlock
- Luna Snow
- Scarlet Witch
- Black Widow
- Hawkeye
- The Punisher
- Hela
- Winter Soldier
- Hulk
All heroes up until Winter Soldier on this list are hitscan characters. This means that their projectile doesn’t take time (or any significant time) to travel to the target. This allows players to easily take down a flying hero like Ultron. No matter how much he can heal himself, if the hitscan damage is persistent, he will easily die.
Hulk is a character who is melee for the most part. However, his gamma clap ability can deal ranged damage as a projectile. Moreover, when he exiles a flying hero, they will come crashing down. If none of this works, his Incredible Leap ability can bring down all fliers that he hits while jumping.
Tips and Tricks to Play Ultron in Marvel Rivals

When playing Ultron, be mindful of the following tips:
- Your Imperative: The Patch ability will show the face of the ally it is on. The number above it shows how many people it is currently healing.
- The only healing ability provides Healing Over Time. So, try putting it on enemies that are flying with you or diving and coming right back, like Wolverine or Human Torch.
- Save your Nano Ray team up for times when allies and enemies are grouped up together to make the most out of it. It will also charge up your Ultimate way faster.
- The Ultimate Ability Rage of Ultron deals less damage but has robust healing. So, use it like a healing ultimate or for eliminating vulnerable squishy enemies.
