Climb the leaderboards with the help of this quick Marvel Rivals guide for the new Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol game mode.

Marvel Rivals has introduced the new Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol game mode. This new experimental game mode came into effect starting on June 6, 2025 UTC. It is fairly different from all the other existing game modes and the ones that have been around before. So, we found it essential to guide you regarding the rules and tips to dominate other players on the server. It is only going to be around for 17 days from its launch, so you should hurry if you wish to play it.
Understanding Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol in Marvel Rivals
There are certain rules that the game follows when you are playing this new experimental game mode. First and foremost, the mode will juggle you between PvP and PvE rounds. If you are facing Galacta Bots, it means the match is PvE. However, if you see another roster of heroes, you are facing another player online.
The match starts when you select all six characters on your team. Unfortunately, the entire roster is not present during the team-selection process. However, playing different rounds will help you unlock more heroes to put on your team later. Players can also buy different modules using the Tokens obtained by winning/losing rounds.

Base Modules will include different types of protocols. They will usually cost around 5 Tokens each. The stars on the bottom of the base module show the level of that module. If that specific module comes back after buying, a new star will be blinking on it, showing that if you buy the protocol again, it will be upgraded. Moreover, you can Lock the current rollout of protocols if you like them, and they won’t refresh in the next Module Draw Phase.
Next, there are Replacement Modules that let you replace the characters on your team. It will cost you 5 Tokens each to see what characters are available for Vanguards, Duelists, and Strategists. Then, you can freely swap the available heroes.
Lastly, the Strengthen Modules can be selected after you play a PvE round against Galacta Bots. They appear in a bright yellow color and you can only take up to two of them. They are free of cost and boost a specific hero. In case you swap that hero later, a new Strengthen Module will randomly be assigned to a hero on your team.
Rewards For Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol

There are a total of three cosmetic rewards that you can unlock by playing the new Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol mode. These go as follows:
- Ultron-1 Spray
- Acceptable Emoji
- Think, Human! Emoji
The first two cosmetics can be obtained by completing 3 and 10 matches, respectively. The last, however, is a reward which can be unlocked by obtaining 2,000 Points on the leaderboard of the new mode. You will start the new mode with 1,000 Points, so it shouldn’t be too difficult.
Additional Tips

There are a few tips to be mindful of when playing the new Ultron mode:
- As an Ultron drone, you will have two tools at your disposal. One to Heal your allies and the other to Damage your opponents. These can only be used once per round to slightly influence the outcome.
- Secondly, pay attention to the kind of characters you put on the roster. The heroes will target other heroes based on three categories: how close they are to them, who has the lowest max health, and who has the highest max health. The first one includes most of the roster. Heroes in the second category are Captain America, Venom, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Magik, Psylocke, Black Widow, and Scarlet Witch. Lastly, only Wolverine focuses on characters based on their max health.
