Difficulty in Megabonk is more than just a challenge you can complete. Playing on a higher difficulty also increases the rewards you get from enemies. This means you get more XP, Silver, and Gold in exchange for facing more hordes of enemies with higher stats.
Fortunately, you can adjust your difficulty mid-playthrough. The game offers various stage tiers so you can choose the level of challenge you want. If you want, you can start with easier stages and slowly increase the level of difficulty whenever you are ready.

How Does Difficulty Work in Megabonk
The difficulty system in Megabonk is similar to other game titles. The higher you set this value, the more enemies spawn. At certain difficulties, enemies start spawning with increased health and damage. This makes things even more dangerous and risky. However, there is a benefit to raising the difficulty. In exchange for facing tougher challenges, you get more rewards, incentivising you to try and clear higher difficulty stages.
This adds a layer of high-risk, high-reward mechanics in the game. While you can easily clear a stage and get rewards, you can go for a more challenging stage and get even more rewards for clearing it.

How To Increase Difficulty in Megabonk
The game features two ways you can raise the difficulty:
- Select Higher Tier Stages: After completing Tier 1 maps, you unlock other tiers. The higher the tier, the more difficult the stage is. Additionally, tougher challenges will also become available.
- Activate Shrines: Greed Shrines let you gradually increase the difficulty of the game by 5% and also raise the rewards. Alternatively, there are also the Charge Shrines that appear randomly and let you raise the difficulty by 8%. If you want to slowly ramp up the stakes, take advantage of these shrines.
Keep in mind that the higher the difficulty, the harder it is to survive and clear the stage. This means you will have to come prepared with the best items, tomes, and character builds. Going on higher difficulties unprepared will make it nearly impossible to complete objectives.
