To capture animals, the Mk22 is your primary option. It allows you to fire a tranquilizer shot, which puts the animals to sleep. Hitting an animal with a tranquilizer allows you to capture it alive. Snake can carry up to three live animals at a time. Additionally, you can also use the EZ Gun to capture animals once you unlock the weapon.

Apart from tranq shots, you can also use Mousetrap to capture animals. Place a Mousetrap on a spawning location of a specific animal, then exit and re-enter the area. When you return, the Mousetrap will likely have captured an animal. Along with the captured live animal, you can also pick up the Mousetrap and reuse it.

Captured live animals serve as a valuable tool in your gameplay in several ways. Snake can consume live animals, making them highly beneficial as a food source. However, not all animals are a perfect food source, as some, like Tsuchinoko, provide additional benefits. Capturing the legendary Tsuchinoko rewards you with the Infinity face paint, which grants infinite ammo.

Besides serving as a food source, Snake can also equip captured live animals and throw them at enemies. This tactic causes enemies to panic, become distracted, or disoriented, providing an opportunity to take them out or sneak past unnoticed.
