Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater, the latest title in the Metal Gear series, is just a few days short of its release date. While the game is set to release on August 28, 2025, it’s already available for pre-load on all platforms. Much like Konami’s previous “remake,” Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid Delta is built using Unreal Engine 5. And as such, the game boasts a rather massive file size. This is where pre-loading the game helps a lot.

Having the game pre-loaded on your console or PC lets you jump into the action right away. That said, there are some caveats with pre-loading on PC. Given how Steam distributes pre-downloads, you might find downloading the game on release a better option than pre-loading the same. Here’s everything you need to know about Metal Gear Solid Delta’s pre-load, including the schedule for all platforms, file size, and more.

When Can You Pre-Load Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater?

Pre-load for Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater is currently live on all platforms. Do note that in order to pre-download the game, you need to have it pre-ordered on your platform of choice. Furthermore, pre-load is available for both Deluxe and Standard Edition owners. However, if you pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition of the game, you can start playing 48 hours before the release date. Basically, for Deluxe Edition pre-orders, the MGS Delta will be playable from August 26, 2025. Furthermore, the Deluxe Edition also comes with a host of additional content for the game, including exclusive cosmetics for Snake, special equipment(s), and more.

That said, the Deluxe Edition extras are included as the Sneaking DLC Pack. And much like in the case of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, the Sneaking DLC Pack can be purchased separately as well. As such, if you picked up the Standard Edition of the game, you can still get the Deluxe Edition cosmetics, albeit for $10.

Should You Pre-Load Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater?

For Xbox Series X|S and PS5 pre-orders, absolutely. Pre-loading the game on consoles allows you to start playing as soon as it unlocks, without any additional downtime. However, that’s not the case on PC, at least when it comes to Steam. Pre-downloads on Steam are installed as an encrypted file on the system. And once the game releases, Steam then has to unpack the game files (including the executable). This is done to prevent the game files from leaking ahead of their intended release date. And given that unpacking the files means decrypting them, it requires a ton of CPU resources.

As such, pre-loading on PC doesn’t necessarily guarantee that you can start playing right when the game releases. Often, it can take 15 minutes to an hour for the game files to unpack. This is especially true for games with bigger file sizes. Furthermore, the unpacking process is highly dependent on CPU speeds and storage bandwidth. If you’re using an older CPU paired with a SATA SSD, it might be better to just download the game once it releases.

Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater File Size

According to the game’s official PC system requirements, MGS Delta requires roughly 100 GB of storage. However, the game’s pre-download size is 76 GB on PC and 87 GB on consoles. It should be noted that on PC, the game might take up more space after its release due to the decompression of files.
