Archetypes in Metaphor ReFantazio form a core aspect of the gameplay. Essentially, these are combat stats that grant you unique active and passive abilities in battle. Apart from your protagonist, each follower will also have Archetypes that you will have to cater to.

All Archetypes in Metaphor ReFantazio can be divided into four classes – Origin, Adept, Elite, and Royal. Origin Archetypes can be considered the start of the lineage. They can gradually be leveled up to their higher variants, which are considerably more powerful.
