Metaphor ReFantazio has several boss fights that seemingly stack the odds against you. Some of them are humongous and hit hard, while others are flanked by minions; both put different player skills to the test. The former tests whether you can identify weaknesses and exploit them to deplete a massive HP bar. The latter is a test of your party setup and Archetype knowledge. Monk Captain Gideaux, flanked by his monks, falls in the latter category.

Gideaux is found as part of the ‘Apprehend the Real Kidnapper’ quest in Metaphor Refantazio. In this Metaphor ReFantazio Monk Captain Gideaux Boss Guide, we shall go over how to deal with the boss and his monks swiftly. We will also go over the enemy’s weaknesses, how you can target them, the preparations you should make, and much more.

All About Monk Captain Gideaux Boss in Metaphor ReFantazio

You intervene in Monk Captain Gideaux’s stand against Louis’ forces and invite his wrath during the “Apprehend the Real Kidnapper” quest in Metaphor Refantazio. You will have to battle Gideaux regardless of whether you aid Glodell. The Monk Captain immediately recognizes you as the perpetrator behind the events in the Grand Cathedral and seeks to deliver punishment. Gideaux and his monks board your deck and kick off the boss fight.

Preparation for Monk Captain Gideaux in Metaphor ReFantazio

The Monk Captain Gideaux is under the protection of the King’s Magic. This means you cannot move in to strike him directly and must deal with his two monk minions first. The Mage Monk is resistant to magic and vulnerable to physical strikes. The other spearmonk is resistant to physical attacks but vulnerable to magic attacks. So, bring in at least one Archetype for Magic and Physical attacks.

Gideaux is locked off behind the King’s Magic, and your entire focus should be on the two monks beside him. To deal with these two monks, the Protagonist can run the Seeker Archetype, Strohl can stick to the Warrior, and Hunkenburg will bring the Knight Archetype. This setup will allow you to deal with the monks swiftly in a balanced fashion.

Since you have to deal with the two monks in this boss fight, bring a good blend of magic and physical attacks. The Warrior Archetype offers some of the hardest-hitting physical attacks and will be the Mage Monk’s bane of existence. The Seeker Archetype will allow you to deal with the Spearmonk effectively with a balanced approach. You also want to use the Knight Archetype to draw enemy aggression and thwart Gideaux from locking on to the party.

Metaphor ReFantazio Monk Captain Gideaux Battle Strategy

As mentioned, Gideaux is invincible courtesy of the King’s Magic. Instead, your targets are the two monks who defend him. Deal with the two monks to trigger a cutscene that marks the end of the boss battle. Remember to not attack Gideaux, as the objective clearly instructs you to defeat his minions without damaging him.

We recommend dealing with the Mage Monk right away to stop his (annoying) magic assault. Use physical attacks (such as pierce or slash) with the Warrior to chip away at his health bar and kill him. Once dealt with, switch your focus to the other monk and use magic attacks to deal with him accordingly. Use Hulkenburg and the Knight Archetype to draw enemy aggression away from the Protagonist and Strohl. Use the Knight’s Proclamation Skill to do so.

Monk Captain Gideaux Rewards

Unfortunately, the Monk Captain Gideaux, drops no rewards upon being defeated. Once you deal with the monks by his side, a cutscene triggers further progressing the story and depriving you of any sort of loot drops.

Conclusion

Monk Captain Gideaux is a fairly easy boss and can be dealt with swiftly if you bring the right Archetypes to the field. The two minions deal moderate damage and nothing you can’t handle. With the right party setup and the appropriate use of Archetypes, you will be done with the fight in no time.
