If you’re just starting out in MLB The Show 25, you might be overwhelmed by the sheer number of options and things to do. Even veteran players of the series might come across a range of game mechanics that have undergone changes since the last entry. Understanding every aspect of the game will help you conquer challenging tasks, including becoming a better hitter or pitcher. In this guide, we’ll go through the top five tips that can help beginners acclimate to the game and all it has to offer.

Top 5 Beginner Tips for MLB the Show 25

The following are some tips that should help you progress through the game without facing too much of a challenge.

Tip 1: Choose the Important Attributes for Batters and Pitchers

For batters, you should focus more on attributes such as Contact and Power. These will determine how well your batter makes contact with the ball, while Power will decide how far they’re able to hit it. Next, you should prioritize Reaction and Speed attributes, both of which will help them while batting and also on the field.

For pitchers, all attributes are more or less important. However, Stamina is one of the most important, as it determines how long a player can pitch before they get tired. H/9 is another attribute you must focus on, as it decides how successful batters are at hitting pitches from the player. With a high BB/9 attribute, your pitcher becomes more accurate.

Tip 2: Ambush Hitting Functions Differently Compared To Guess Pitching

The game introduces a new feature for batters called Ambush Hitting. Veterans of the series might assume that the system functions similarly to Guess Pitching from past entries in the series, but that’s not the case. Beginners should understand some stark differences between the two mechanics. Unlike Guess Pitching, Ambush Hitting will never let the batter know what kind of pitch is coming their way, nor will it tell you where the upcoming pitch is going.

The side of the strike zone you choose to ambush will have an increased pitch coverage indicator compared to the other side. So, if you pick the wrong ambush site, you’ll suffer a significant disadvantage. If you pick the right side, there is a greater chance of your batter getting a proper hit on the ball.

This means you should only use Ambush Hitting when you’re fairly confident about where your opponent is about to pitch. Otherwise, it would be better to rely on normal hitting.

Tip 3: Pick at Least Two Team Affinities

Completing Team Affinity will help you earn the best cards and packs, alongside various other rewards. However, you should pick at least two Team Affinities in MLB The Show 25. This will allow you to always fill your squad with players from your focused Team Affinities, even if they don’t belong to the same affinity. In this way, you’ll be able to earn points for two Team Affinities at once.

Also, complete the Starter Moment for every Team Affinity. You will find this at the top of the list under the My Journey Tasks. Doing this helps you earn 5,000 TA points easily and unlock the Silver Card for that Team Affinity. Place this card in your squad to get Parallel XP and even more TA points by completing simple missions.

Tip 4: Get Fielders With Good Reaction Ratings

Reaction ratings for fielders in your squad matter much more this time around than in previous iterations of the MLB series. You’ll immediately notice many shots getting through fielders who have poor reaction ratings. This means the Reaction attribute is even more important than the actual Fielding rating. That’s because only fielders who react quickly enough will even have a chance of making a play.

Tip 5: Robbing Home Runs Will Require Practice and Precise Timing

If you’ve played past MLB games, you might notice a change in the system when it comes to robbing a home run. Unlike past years, you won’t have to zigzag around the field to stop a home run. Instead, there are new character animations and systems for this. The fielder will need to have a decent defensive rating.

Next, you’ll need to time your jumps just right for the catch. Practice is the key here, and once you get the timing right, robbing home runs should be a breeze.
