Everything you need to know about the best Great Sword build in Monster Hunter Wilds for taking down Omega Planetes (TU3).

Omega Planetes is arguably the toughest monster in the current roster of Monster Hunter Wilds, and that’s not an exaggeration. Although it’s a collaboration monster, Omega, much like MH World’s Behemoth, is a force to be reckoned with, even for seasoned Hunters. However, with the right build and skills, you can easily take down Omega, albeit with a bit of practice.
Thankfully, Omega isn’t a tough cookie for any seasoned Great Sword user. With the right skills, you can make short work of Omega and perhaps even Savage Omega Planetes. However, to get your Great Sword build working against Omega Planetes, you do need a good balance of defensive and offensive skills. You cannot win this battle with offense alone.
Here’s a comprehensive guide on the best (and most comfy) Great Sword build for Omega Planetes in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Overview of the Best Great Build for Omega Planetes in Monster Hunter Wilds

For the Great Sword build, we’re focusing primarily on increasing offensive power, while also maintaining ample defense. Skills that we need for this build are – Resentment, Weakness Exploit, Agitator, Maximum Might, Thunder Attack, Critical Boost, Critical Element, Dragon Attack, Recovery Speed, and most importantly, Divine Blessing.
That said, it’s not possible to work all these skills (at effective levels) in a single (High Rank) build. As such, we’re prioritizing skills based on our playstyle and weapons. However, feel free to experiment with all these skills and see which ones fit your playstyle better. It should be mentioned that you can also work Mind’s Eye into this build.
However, we chose not to use Mind’s Eye as Resentment (with the True Shadowbringer) is more than sufficient to serve our DPS needs. As for the Talisman, we went with an Unknown Charm. However, if you don’t want to grind 9 Star hunts, you can simply use the Challenger Charm instead. For the armor, we went with the evergreen Arkvulcan set.
And for weapons, Artian is the best choice (no “god roll” required). Make sure to max out a Dragon and a Thunder Artian Great Sword. Ideally, you want to aim for Sharpness and Affinity Boosts. However, Attack Boost and Elemental Boost also work really well for this particular build. We used the True Shadowbringer for this build to capitalize on Resentment.
However, if you don’t want to craft the Omega Great Sword (or don’t have parts for it yet), it’s best to switch Resentment with Counterstrike skill. Maximum Might is also a great alternative, granted you’re good with your stamina management.

Tips To Use the Great Sword Build Against Omega Planetes

Here are some tips that will help you use the Great Sword build against Omega Planetes effectively:
- As a Great Sword user, your primary role will be to tank Omega Planetes and retain enmity as much as possible. To aid this role, this build already comes with plenty of defensive options, including Divine Blessing, Stun Resistance, and Recovery Speed.
- However, when it comes to offense, your primary targets are going to be Omega’s hind legs. Omega, in his regular mode, takes bonus slash damage to his hind legs. As such, Great Sword is going to be extremely effective there.
- In the first phase, you want to tenderize the hind legs. That way, you can easily create wounds on Omega’s legs as soon as it enters the Pantokrator Mode. While the Great Sword has incredibly effective blocking in Monster Hunter Wilds, you don’t really want to use it against Omega. The chip damage received while blocking is quite lethal, even with Guard Up equipped.
- Ideally, you want to use True Shadowbringer with this build to maximize your damage using Resentment and Darkside. However, if you’re using Artian Weapons, make sure to switch Resentment with either Maximum Might or Counterstrike.

Additional Notes
If you have a Lance or Gunlance user in your party, we recommend switching to the role of DPS. With Resentment, Weakness Exploit, and Critical Element, you will be able to easily dish out roughly 800-1000 damage with a TCS.
