Savage Omega Planetes is arguably among the toughest monsters in the entire Monster Hunter series, thus far. While the monster falls short of the spectacle of Fatalis, Alatreon, or Ahtal-Ka, Omega makes up for it with its ferocity and strength. The regular Omega Planetes is already a force to be reckoned with in Monster Hunter Wilds. However, the Savage variant is on a whole other level of difficulty.

That said, with the right build, you can easily overcome this challenge. And what’s better than taking down Omega with its own weapon, the Shadowbringer Great Sword? Here’s a comprehensive guide on the best Great Sword build for Savage Omega Planetes in Monster Hunter Wilds.

For the best Great Sword build, we’re focusing exclusively on offense. While yes, we are investing a few skills in defense as well, but the priority here is getting as much DPS as possible since that’s going to be the primary role of the Great Sword. The skills to focus on are – Weakness ExploitAgitatorMaximum MightThunder AttackCritical BoostCritical ElementDragon Attack, and Recovery Speed.

Do note that we’re not using Divine Blessing in this build, and that has its reasons. We don’t recommend fighting Savage Omega Planetes unless you’re very familiar with the regular variant and general movesets of the monster. And once you know how to tackle Omega, you’re usually not going to hit all too often. You can also work Resentment into this build.

However, we found Maximum Might and Agitator to be more than enough for all our DPS needs. As for the armor, we’re using 2 pieces of Rey Day (Gamma), 2 pieces of Lagiacrus, and one piece of Uth Duna (Gamma). That gives us access to all the necessary skills that we need for the Omega Planetes encounter.

For the Talisman, we’re using the Challenger Charm. However, you can work any RNG Talisman if you want. However, make sure to invest some points into Agitator.

Tips To Use the Great Sword Build Against Omega Planetes

Here are some tips that will help you use the Great Sword build against Savage Omega Planetes effectively:

  • While this build can work for solo hunts, it’s best used in co-op, either with Support Hunters or other players. Since we’re not using skills like Stun Resistance, Gobbler, and Divine Blessing, survivability will mostly depend on your dodging skills and help from allies.
  • That said, if used correctly, this build can pump out incredibly high damage with both Shadowbringer and Varianza.
  • Ideally, you want to stick close to Omega’s head, where you can easily create wounds and destroy them. Do note that destroying Omega’s head wounds immediately conjures a shield, which protects you from all projectile-based attacks.
  • Make sure to use your Tackle cancel moveset when you’re close to the monster’s head. Otherwise, you can stick close to Omega’s hind legs and deal slash damage with TCS.
  • For the Nerscylla phase, you ideally want to bring a Fire elemental weapon. However, Shadowbringer can also make a quick work of the Temnoceran. Make sure to use the Morbols to stun the Nerscylla to make it easier to attack.

Additional Notes

For the most part, Savage Omega Planetes follows the same structure as its regular variant, with some changes. The battle is still divided into four phases. You can get more details on the boss using our dedicated guide for Omega Planetes. As for the Great Sword build, your primary objective is going to be to tank and deal as much damage as possible.
