If you’re a Monster Hunter veteran, you’d know that Capcom often tasks players with finding hidden creatures out in their worlds. Capturing them often leads to in-game trophies or achievements. With Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom seems to be continuing this tradition. You can capture a blue mouse-like creature when you’re out exploring. Although officially named Dawnstar, the description mentions that players should be on the lookout for a creature in the desert that resembles a shooting star in its shine. So, here’s a detailed guide on the shooting star in Monster Hunter Wilds and how you can catch one.

The Sandstar is a furry nocturnal creature that’s blue in color and resembles a mouse in many aspects of its appearance. They have excellent hearing and will use it to flee when they sense any danger approaching. The creature is incredibly quick on its feet, and you won’t be able to chase one down, even when you are on your trusted Seikret. Instead, the trick to catching the Sandstar is actually turning its incredible hearing prowess into a weakness. Once you capture the creature, your Endemic Life Field Guide will have a new entry for Sandstar. Read our guide to understand what Endemic Lives are in Monster Hunter Wilds.

The creature also seems to have specific spawn conditions that you must fulfill. Besides heading to a specific location in the game world, you will also only encounter Sandstar at night. Choose the Season of Plenty to maximize your chances of finding one.

Now, let’s take a look at the steps you need to follow when catching this particular Endemic Life form in the game.

Follow the steps mentioned below to capture the creature and earn the trophy attached to it:

  • Step 1: Make sure it says Nighttime/Plenty at the top left of the map.
  • Step 2: Head to the sand dunes between areas 11 and 13 in the Windward Plains region.
  • Step 3: Walk around the desert until you spot a blue glimmer in the sand. Watch carefully, as it’s a blink-and-you-miss kind of situation, and you could walk by it if you’re not looking carefully.
  • Step 4: Don’t try to chase after the creature. Instead, equip a Screamer Pod and use it on the creature to stun it.
  • Step 5: While it’s stunned, quickly equip the capture net and use it to catch the little furry creature.

While this is the easiest way, it’s certainly not the only one to capture a shooting star in Monster Hunter Wilds. You can try to chase the creature down on a Seikret, but you won’t catch up to it. However, the Sandstar sometimes takes a U-turn, allowing you to get close enough without resorting to stunning it. However, you need to be exceptionally quick when this happens and equip the capture net fast.
