Adding to its deadly arsenal, Nerscylla can inflict both Poison and Sleep status effects. This makes it challenging to defeat. However, it is far from unbeatable. Its weakness to fire presents a key opportunity for hunters to exploit and bring it down.

Nerscylla Overview
Nerscylla is a Temnoceran that can be found in various locations like Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, and the Ruins of Wyveria. They are known for trapping their targets with their webs before putting them to sleep and injecting poison. Additionally, they have an intriguing habit of wearing the skin of one of their prey, Gypceros.
How To Unlock Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Wilds
You encounter Nerscylla during the Hopes of Home main quest. Simply follow your scoutflies to find the exact location of the monster on the map. After your first encounter with this monster in the story, you will then have the option to hunt it in the open world.
Where To Find Nerscylla
Nerscylla primarily inhabits dark, cavernous regions that mimic its natural lair. Outside of the main quest encounter, you can find this creature in the Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, and the Ruins of Wyveria.
Possible Turf Wars for Nerscylla
Nerscylla has a turf war with its favorite prey, Gypceros. These clashes can be advantageous for hunters, as the monsters inflict significant damage upon each other, potentially easing the hunt.
Nerscylla Weaknesses
In terms of weakness, Nerscylla is relatively weak to fire when it’s still wearing a Gypceros hide but is resistant to thunder. However, this reverses when the hide is destroyed, making it weak to thunder elemental attacks but highly resistant to fire.
One thing to also note is that this monster is highly resistant to water- and dragon-based elemental attacks. This means you will need flexible gear that can deal with fire and thunder damage and swap it depending on the situation.
Elemental Weaknesses
Nerscylla’s elemental vulnerabilities shift depending on its current state:
- When Covered in Gypceros Hide: Weak to Fire; resistant to Thunder.
- After the Mantle is Destroyed: Weak to Thunder; resistant to Fire.

The best way to deal with Nerscylla is to bring weapons and ammo that build up the Paralysis effect. Once there is enough buildup, the status effect activates. The faster you can stack up the debuff, the better. This means weapons like the Dual Blades are perfect for quickly applying Paralysis to targets.

Items To Carry for the Battle
To increase your chances of completing the hunt, make sure you prepare the following:
- Energy Drink – To remove the Sleep status effect.
- Antidote, Herbal Powder, and Herbal Medicine – To cleanse the Poison effect.
- Cleanser – To remove webbing effects immediately.
- Flash Pods, Shock Traps, and Pitfall Traps – To suppress the movement of the target.
How To Beat Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Wilds
To defeat Nerscylla, keep an eye out for the following movesets:
- Arm Sweep – The creature swings one of its arms at the targets in front of it.
- Arm Thrust – Nerscylla attacks targets in front of it downward.
- Charge Attack – Prepare for when the monster backs away and shoots a web before charging forward. If you get caught, you might not have enough time to escape.
- Arm Slice – It will try to slice targets which can knock you away when hit directly.
- Jump Attack – The monster will jump high as it tries to land a hit on its target.
- Hatchling Swarm Attack – Nerscylla commands its hatchlings to attack you. This can be annoying to deal with, so don’t let them overwhelm you.
- Poison Stinger – The giant arachnid will attempt to stab you with its back sting and inflict Poison.
- Swing and Dive – Nerscylla will attempt to climb with its webs to reach higher ground. It will then swing its body and dive onto its target.
- Web Attack – Bombards you with web attacks that apply the Webbed status effect. You can’t move while in this state.
