The event-exclusive Scavenger Pickaxe is easily the most unique design for any Long Sword in Monster Hunter Wilds. While there have been some really cool designs for the Long Sword in past Monster Hunter titles, nothing comes close to the sheer beauty of an old and reliable Pickaxe. And to go with the theme of “mining,” the Scavenger Pickaxe is obtained as part of the Hungry for Ore? Event Quest. The Event Quest sees you fight not one, but two Tempered Gravios, which is quite a challenge, especially for Hunters who are yet to reach the endgame.

However, there are a few ways to reduce the quest’s difficulty and easily obtain the resources to craft the Scavenger Pickaxe. Here’s everything you need to know about the Scavenger Pickaxe in Monster Hunter Wilds, and how to obtain it.

To get the Scavenger Pickaxe Long Sword, you need to complete Hungry for Ore? Event Quest. However, the Event Quest does have a few restrictions. Firstly, you need to have finished the High Rank campaign of Monster Hunter Wilds to even access this Event Quest. The minimum Hunter Rank requirement for Hungry for Ore? Is HR 41. As such, to start the quest, you need to defeat High Rank Arkveld (Flying Wyvern) and unlock the game’s true endgame. After that, you can simply grind a few Tempered Monsters to get to HR 41.

Once you’ve reached HR 41 and above, you can access the Hungry for Ore? Event Quest by talking to Alma at any of your Pop-up Camps. Hungry for Ore? Event Quest is easily one of the most challenging hunts in the game, requiring you to slay/capture two Tempered Gravios. Furthermore, the quest takes place in the Wounded Hollow, which further adds to the quest’s difficulty.

Once you complete the quest, you will be rewarded with Worn Picksaxe, which is the material needed to craft the Scavenger Pickaxe. Here’s a list of all the resources needed to craft the Scavenger Pickaxe (Rarity 7) and Mad Scavenger Pickaxe (Rarity 8):

Scavenger Pickaxe

  • Worn Pickaxe x2
  • Gravios Carapace x4
  • Carbalite Ore x10
  • Firecell Stone x1

Mad Scavenger Pickaxe

  • Hunter Symbol III x5
  • Worn Pickaxe x1
  • Gravios Medulla x1
  • Fulcium Ore x10

How To Defeat Tempered Gravios in Hungry for Ore Event Quest?

Admittedly, Tempered Gravios has a lot of health and defense. Furthermore, due to the monster’s physiology, breaking through its hide isn’t easy with raw damage. However, Gravios is extremely weak to elemental damage. You can easily get past the monster’s defenses with Dragon or Blastblight weapons. Furthermore, you can also use Sleep or Paralysis against Gravios. However, when it comes to damage, we recommend using Dragon or Blast, both of which are good alternatives to raw damage, even on slower weapons.
