Arch-tempered Uth Duna has finally made its way to Monster Hunter Wilds, and is easily the toughest challenge introduced with the Flamefete Festival. While Tempered Seregios still has an edge over Uth Duna, the AT variant is quite a jump in terms of difficulty. However, taking down the Arch-tempered Uth Duna does offer a unique reward, i.e., the Uth Duna γ set. The γ set essentially is a more powerful version of the regular Uth Duna armor, offering better base skills and even a new set bonus. However, given the lackluster nature of the Rey Dau γ set during the previous Season of Accord, some players might be hesitant about crafting the new Uth Duna armor.

And while the skepticism is warranted, the new Uth Duna γ set does offer some skills that can be quite useful for very specific builds. Here’s everything you need to know about the Uth Duna γ armor set in Monster Hunter Wilds, and whether it’s worth crafting or not.

How To Craft the Uth Duna γ Armor Set In Monster Hunter Wilds

To craft the Uth Duna Gamma set, you need to defeat Arch-tempered Uth Duna. The majority of the materials needed to craft the Gamma set can be obtained by simply slaying/capturing regular Uth Duna. However, you do need at least five Uth Duna γ Certificates for the armor sets. And the Uth Duna γ Certificates can only be obtained by defeating the Arch-tempered variant.

Thankfully, you don’t need too many of these Certificates. And completing the Arch-tempered hunt a handful of times will give you enough γ Certificates to craft the entire set. Do note that much like the Arch-tempered Rey Dau quest, AT Uth Duna is available only for the duration of the Flamefete Festival.

The monster will be available later as a permanent Event Quest. Additionally, Arch-tempered Uth Duna will be available as an Arena Challenge Quest, which is also a great way to earn the γ Certificates.

The Uth Duna γ armor set has three primary attributes — Peak Performance, Earplugs, and Tool Specialist. However, unlike the regular HR Uth Duna armor, all these skills are effectively maxed out by default with the full Uth Duna γ set. Earplugs, in particular, are an excellent skill that at Level 3 can nullify all monster roars. Peak Performance is also a good skill, albeit with a very specific playstyle in mind. Furthermore, in the current version of Monster Hunter Wilds, Peak Performance doesn’t offer the intended stat boost at full HP. However, it’s still a good passive option to keep for weapons like Lance, Gunlance, or even the Charge Blade.

Apart from the skills, there are also set bonuses for the Uth Duna γ set:

  • Uth Duna’s Cover: Increases Defense when using a specialized tool (Mantle).
  • Lord’s Soul: Boosts attack and lowers defense, until you face a lethal hit. Negates the damage received from the lethal hit and increases Defense and Resistance afterwards.

Should You Craft the Uth Duna γ Armor Set?

On paper, the Uth Duna γ set seems like a good choice for all weapons. Its set bonus increases Defense and grants some really useful survivability passives. However, the armor set or even pieces of it are not all that effective for all playstyles.

Due to its Peak Performance and Tool Specialist skills, the Gamma set is the best choice for defensive weapons like the Lance or the Gunlance. The Gunlance, in particular, benefits a lot from the Gamma set. Both Peak Performance and Uth Duna’s Cover grant passive buffs, which are quite useful for a defensive Gunlance playstyle. However, apart from a more defensive playstyle, the Gamma set isn’t all that useful for most weapons.
