Everything you need to know about Monster Hunter Wilds’ pre-load details, including its file size, platforms, and more.
Monster Hunter Wilds is just a few weeks away from its release. The game is scheduled to come out on February 28, 2025. And with the release date drawing ever closer, Capcom has finally revealed the official pre-load details for their upcoming action RPG. Much like previous Capcom offerings, Monster Hunter Wilds will be available to pre-download on PlayStation and Xbox systems roughly 48 hours prior to release. This should give players with slower internet ample time to download the game and keep it prepped for the midnight launch.
Pre-loading will also be available for PC players via Steam, albeit at a later date, with some caveats. Here’s everything you need to know about Monster Hunter Wilds’ pre-download, file size, and more.
When Can You Pre-Load Monster Hunter Wilds?
The upcoming Monster Hunter game will be available to pre-download on February 26, 2025. However, this date is only applicable to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, i.e., consoles. On PC, the game will be available to pre-load roughly 24 hours ahead of the official release date, i.e., February 27, 2025. Do note that on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the pre-order bonus DLCs will need to be downloaded separately from the base game.
If you own the Deluxe or the Premium Edition of the game, you will have to download the Deluxe Pack DLCs separately. On PC, the DLCs will be downloaded automatically when you start the pre-load.
It should be noted that on PC, Monster Hunter Wilds is only available through Steam. And pre-loading games on Steam is often pointless if you have decent internet speeds. On Steam, pre-downloaded games need to go through a decryption process upon release. The decryption and unpacking can often end up taking more time than the download itself. Furthermore, unpacking also eats up more disk space than the original download. As such, unless you have a very slow internet connection, it’s best to avoid pre-loading games on Steam.
Monster Hunter Wilds File Size
According to the recently updated system specifications for the game, Monster Hunter Wilds will require 75 GB of storage. This falls perfectly in line with the previous open-world title developed using the RE Engine, Dragon’s Dogma 2. For reference, Dragon’s Dogma 2, complete with all its DLCs, came in at roughly 60 GB. In comparison to that, the upcoming Monster Hunter features a vastly larger open world and more complex NPC (and monster) AI. In addition to that, Capcom also highly recommends installing the game on an SSD, even for the minimum specifications.
