Monster Hunter Wilds throws a ton of weapons at you, each with its own quirks, combos, and potential builds. If you’re unsure about what fits your playstyle or just want to fine-tune your skills, the Training Area is the perfect place to experiment.

The Training Area is located in Windward Plains Base Camp, the first base camp you’ll have access to.

Once the game allows you to explore freely, head to the northern edge of the camp. Look for a wooden structure draped with red cloth and surrounded by various weapons—this is your entry point. Just walk up and interact with it to step inside.

How To Customize the Training Area

Once inside, you’ll find a few useful tools to help you get the most out of your practice sessions. First, there’s the Makeshift Camp, where you can swap gear and experiment with different builds. Next, you’ll meet the Training Area Meownager, who lets you tweak the settings of the High Purrformance Barrel Puncher—your sparring partner.

Here’s what you can adjust:

  • Hide Settings – Change between soft or hard hide to simulate different monster defenses.
  • Wound Settings – Decide if wounds appear like they do in real battles or turn them off completely.
  • Mode Selection – Choose between Standby, Smash Mode, Throw Mode, and Automatic.
  • Smash Pattern – Adjust how the dummy reacts to your attacks.
  • Orientation – Set its facing direction to test attacks from different angles.
  • Natural Recovery – Enable or disable health regeneration.
  • Strength Settings – Adjust the Puncher’s durability to match different monster toughness levels.

If you prefer a challenge, you can activate the attack mode, making the dummy fight back. This is a great way to work on dodging, blocking, and counterattacks without the risk of carting.

Training Area is a stress-free way to refine your skills. No pressure, no sudden monster attacks—just you, your weapon, and a chance to get better. So, go ahead, try out different playstyles, and make sure you’re ready when it’s time for the real hunt.
