RPG is one of the most celebrated gaming genres of all time, with titles such as Skyrim and Dark Souls cementing the genre’s legacy. In just two months of 2025, we already have heavy hitters like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s PC port, both of which received stellar reviews.
If you’re an RPG lover, then this year will be an incredible one for you. Here are five of the most anticipated RPGs coming out in 2025.
1. Elden Ring Nightreign
Bandai Namco promised to continue expanding upon the Elden Ring IP, and now they have kept that promise. Elden Ring Nightreign is a roguelike that gives players access to eight existing classes.
Set in an alternate version of Limgrave called Limvield, players can join matches solo or alongside two companions. Each match consists of regular enemies, with a boss fight at the end. Nightreign also brings back many iconic enemies from previous games, such as The Nameless King and Centipede Demon.
This game is a love letter to Miyazaki fans who have played his games and a great co-op experience with friends.
2. Lost Soul Aside
When Final Fantasy XV meets Devil May Cry, with a hint of Soulslike, we get Lost Soul Aside. This game is a hack-and-slash RPG with a super flashy, in-depth, and satisfying combat system. Originally developed by only one man, it gained Sony’s support after the initial reveal was well-received.
Lost Soul Aside follows Kaser, who must save his sister’s soul and thus has to battle many powerful foes along the way. It is a simple but effective premise for an action RPG.
Nearly a decade after its announcement, Lost Soul Aside is set to release in 2025 on PC and PlayStation 5.
3. Assassin’s Creed Shadows
After nearly decades of waiting, the Assassin Brotherhood has finally made its way to the Land of the Rising Sun. AC Shadows proves the series still has what it takes to be great, with its breathtaking recreation of Japan and historical accuracy, as seen with the inclusion of Yasuke. Combat is also the most refined it has ever been, featuring Posture Attacks and Parries alongside a diverse skill tree.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to release on March 20, 2025. So, fans only have to wait two weeks for the highly awaited Japanese addition to the series.
4. Ghost of Yotei
Ghost of Yotei is the standalone sequel to the beloved Ghost of Tsushima. Set in 1603 in Hokkaido, the game’s story will have themes of vengeance, according to Sucker Punch Productions.
Ghost of Tsushima had amazing side quests, satisfying combat, and unique exploration. Additionally, players had a lot of freedom in deciding certain narrative outcomes. The developers have also confirmed that players will have even more control over the story in Yotei.
Players can rest assured that Yotei will surpass the original Ghost of Tsushima in every way.
5. The First Berserker: Khazan
The First Berserker: Khazan is an upcoming RPG that takes inspiration from the Souls games and Soulslikes, such as Nioh. The game features incredible boss fights alongside a crisp parry system that will satisfy many. In addition, the game features a loot system that is a mix of Sekiro and Nioh.
The story is one of betrayal and vengeance, and players must slowly uncover why the main character, Khazan, was betrayed.
