Snap Specs AR Glasses To Be Released in 2026
Earlier this week, the Snap company (which created Snapchat) confirmed its plans to launch new AR hardware in 2026. The next generation of AR glasses will simply be called Specs, which is quite different from the conventional naming scheme the company has followed in previous years.
The Snap Specs will use AR technology to allow users to interact with a digital world visible only to them. The new Specs are expected to feature a lightweight design, so we can expect the AR glasses to be much more comfortable to wear for extended periods. The size will also be dramatically reduced, hopefully resulting in a more minimal look compared to the previous generation of Spectacles.
The most recent generation of Snapchat’s AR glasses was released in September 2024, but they were only available for developers. The new Specs AR Glasses are expected to be a product available to all consumers. Wearable computing is accelerating at a very fast pace, and these upcoming Specs AR glasses could be a game changer in today’s world.

Speaking of software, the Snap Specs AR glasses will run the proprietary Snap OS. Originally, Snapchat Spectacles featured a simple use case, which was to conveniently record and post Snaps for the social media app. However, the new Specs AR glasses will offer a whole new experience. The company also confirmed that Google Gemini AI support will be integrated into the upcoming Specs AR glasses.
