Tyler “Ninja” called out Epic Games during a stream on February 16, 2025. The streamer said that it felt insulting that Fortnite paid fellow content creators to play the game during certain events, but not him. Tyler also claimed that he was one of the few “big” streamers who still play Fortnite. Epic Games had sponsored several streamers to play OG Fortnite during its release which included CourageJD, TimTheTatman, and a few more.

“I’m pretty sure Courage and Tim and a couple of other people got sponsored, paid Fortnite ads to come back and play during like, you know, all the stuff, right? Like OG Fortnite coming back. And once I found out that they had ads, I was like, ‘Oh dude, let’s see if they reach out to us.’ And they already… I’m already playing the game. So they’re like, ‘We’re going to pay these guys to come back and play the game because we already have you, you’re already playing.’ And it’s like… huh? You have any idea how lowkey insulting that is?”

Ninja is known for his Fortnite gameplay, as he is one of the first streamers to play the game. He is often credited for popularizing Fortnite in the mainstream. Tyler was the first streamer to collaborate with a celebrity, as he played Fortnite on stream with Drake. During that stream, Ninja hit a peak viewership of 616K concurrent live viewers, which was briefly the highest on Twitch.

Ninja’s Iconic Stream With Drake Revisited

In 2018, Ninja shocked the streaming world after announcing his stream with popular rapper Drake. In what is considered a turning point for the streaming industry, his stream with Drake was one of the most-watched broadcasts on Twitch. Many streamers, including StableRonaldo and xQc, gave Ninja his flowers for making streaming “cool” in the mainstream.

After claims of AMP making streaming cool went viral, streamers and members of the community stated that Ninja was the first one to make it big. xQc tweeted out that Ninja was the “first and the only one” to go mainstream. Meanwhile, during a conversation with xQc, StableRonaldo emphasized that Ninja’s collaboration with Drake on Fortnite helped make gaming cool.
