Ninja Gaiden games have never been particularly lengthy, and that seems to hold true for Ninja Gaiden 4 as well. However, at the same time, Ninja Gaiden 4 is also the longest game in the franchise, at least for a regular playthrough. The game is divided into 19 Chapters, and each of these chapters can take roughly an hour to beat on Normal difficulty. As such, the base game can take somewhere between 20 and 25 hours to complete.

That said, repeat playthroughs (even those on Master Ninja difficulty) take less time if you skip most of the cutscenes. However, if you’re going for a completionist playthrough and also plan to go through the Purgatory Trials, the game can easily last you upwards of 50 hours.

Here’s everything you need to know about Ninja Gaiden 4’s completion time and how long it takes to beat the main story.

For a regular playthrough on Normal or Hard difficulty, Ninja Gaiden takes roughly 20 to 25 hours to beat. That said, the completion time for the game very much depends on the difficulty chosen and player skill. On Normal, Ninja Gaiden 4 isn’t particularly challenging. However, some of the later story bosses can be quite difficult, especially for newcomers to the series or action games in general.

On Hard, which feels more akin to the standard difficulty of previous Ninja Gaiden titles, the game can be quite challenging. The process of dying to a boss or enemy gauntlet and coming back to exact vengeance can add a lot of additional hours to your playthrough. However, the game can be easily wrapped up within 25 hours.

That said, once you complete the main story, you will unlock the Master Ninja difficulty. And if you plan to get all the trophies for the game, you will need to finish the story on Master Ninja. Furthermore, for completionists, the game also unlocks the Purgatory Trials, which is an arcade training mode with multiple modifiers.

Completing all the additional content and another playthrough (on Master Ninja) can easily take 40 to 50 hours. To summarize, here are the completion times for Ninja Gaiden 4:

  • Regular Playthrough: 20-25 hours.
  • Completionist Playthrough (Master Ninja and Purgatory Trials): 40-50 hours.
