Everything you need to know about Kurobo (Chapter 7) in Ninja Gaiden 4, including strategies and how to defeat the boss.

Ninja Gaiden 4, unlike most action games, has a “reverse difficulty” curve. This means that while the game starts as an incredibly difficult experience, it eventually becomes easier as you progress through it. However, some of the early-game challenges can be incredibly brutal, especially the boss fights. One such early-game boss is Kurobo, a Daemon with mechanized wings and the ability to summon tornadoes.
While not as challenging as Kitsune Courtesan, Kurobo certainly is a difficult boss. However, with the right weapon and skills, you can basically trivialize this boss fight. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to defeat Kurobo in Ninja Gaiden 4’s Chapter 7.

Overview of Kurobo in Ninja Gaiden 4

Kurobo is the final boss of Chapter 7 in Ninja Gaiden 4, and one of the four Guardians of the Dark Dragon Shrine. Much like Kitsune Courtesan, Kurobo has two phases. However, unlike the Kitsune, where both the phases are more or less identical, barring a few combos, Kurobo’s two phases come with completely different movesets. AS such, it’s mechanically a much more challenging battle.
However, Kurobo doesn’t have as much HP as any of the other bosses. And that’s its weakest link. Using the Bloodbind Ninjutsu basically trivializes this boss fight. Furthermore, although the game gives you the Yatousen before you face Kurobo, in practice, that’s not the right weapon for this boss. Instead, Takeminakata, with a few aerial combos unlocked, is the best choice here.
The trickiest part of this boss fight is the second phase, where Kurobo tends to stay airborne most of the time. However, using the Ninja Tool – Dragonfly Glider, you can easily counter Kurobo’s aerial attacks.

Tips To Easily Defeat Kurobo in Ninja Gaiden 4

Here are some tips for phases 1 and 2 of Kurobo in Ninja Gaiden 4:
Phase 1
- The first phase is quite simple, at least compared to the second phase. The only attacks you need to look out for here are the tornado summon AOEs and the unblockable combo. Thankfully, both these attacks have a really simple counter.
- While yes, you can use Yatousen to defeat Kurobo, we found that Takeminakata is much more effective at countering the boss. And in this fight, you want to rely on the counterattacks a lot.
- Breaking the boss’s poise with a Bloodbind attack essentially staggers them, while also dealing a ton of damage. And since Kurobo does a leaping slash for its unblockable attack, it’s much easier to counter with Takeminakata’s wide slash.
- Additionally, you want to use parries in this boss fight more than dodges. Parrying Kurobo is very easy; essentially, time your attacks right as you see Kurobo lifting its head or paw. Following a parry, don’t forget to use the Fatal Flash for additional damage.
- It might take a few tries, but Kurobo’s first phase is a cakewalk compared to the previous two bosses that you’ve faced in Ninja Gaiden 4. The true challenge of this battle is in the second phase.
Phase 2

- Kurobo always starts the second phase with a roar, followed by a giant tornado, which cannot be avoided. However, the tornado doesn’t deal any damage; instead, it lets Kurobo use its aerial combos.
- In this phase, you cannot deal damage to the boss until it lands on the floor. Instead, at the start, you’re expected to use the Dragonfly Glider to dodge the boss’s lunge attacks. Kurobo does three lunges in quick succession, which can be easily dodged as long as you keep a camera lock on the boss. After the lunging attacks, Kurobo will land on the ground for a brief moment.
- While on the ground, Kurobo will repeat the same combos as in Phase 1. However, this time around, the boss also has an aerial combo, which ends with an unblockable attack. We highly recommend memorizing the timing of the unblockable attacks, and countering them is going to be the best way to deal damage to the boss.
- Kurobo repeats the entire process of summoning the giant tornado and lunging attacks a total of three times. However, if you deal enough damage to the boss, you can end the battle in just two cycles.
