Ninja Gaiden 4 features a huge assortment of weapons, each offering a unique playstyle and combos. However, unlike the past entries in the series, most of the weapons in Ninja Gaiden 4 are tied to series newcomer Yakumo, instead of the usual protagonist, Ryu Hayabusa. That said, while Ryu did get the short end of the stick when it comes to weapon variety, his Dark Dragon Blade more than makes up for it.

Surprisingly enough, Yakumo can also get his own version of the Dark Dragon Blade. However, the weapon is only available in the game’s finale. Once you complete the first playthrough, you won’t get access to the Dark Dragon Blade until much later in New Game Plus. That said, there is a way to unlock the weapon for Yakumo, right at the start of your NG+ journey.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Dark Dragon Blade in Ninja Gaiden 4, and how to unlock it.

How To Obtain the Dark Dragon Blade in Ninja Gaiden 4?

Normally, you obtain the Dark Dragon Blade right at the end of Chapter 19 (Ebon Wings). You get the weapon after defeating Ryu Hayabusa, as a means to defeat the nefarious Dark Dragon, once and for all. However, after you complete your mission (and the story), you won’t have access to the Dark Dragon Blade anymore. Even in Chapter replay, you won’t get access to the weapon.

This is due to the fact that the Dark Dragon Blade cannot exist without its progenitor, i.e., the Dark Dragon itself. However, if you want to use the Dark Dragon Blade in New Game Plus, you can do so by completing all the Boss Trials. After completing the main story, you will unlock the Trials, which allow you to replay all the main boss fights with either Ryu or Yakumo.

Once you complete all the Boss Trials (regardless of the rank obtained), you will permanently unlock the Dark Dragon Blade for Yakumo. From there, all your NG+ playthroughs will have the DDB available to you right from the start.

The Dark Dragon Blade for both Yakumo and Ryu might look vastly different, but both serve the same purpose. For Ryu, the weapon is designed more like a traditional Katana. Whereas, for Yakumo, the DDB is designed like the original Dark Dragon Blade that Ryu gets in Ninja Gaiden Black. That said, both versions of the weapon work more or less the same.

The Dark Dragon Blade essentially gives Yakumo access to Ryu’s Gleam Form, which allows you to instantly counter an enemy after executing a Fatal Flash (in Bloodraven form). Additionally, the DDB also alters the Ultimate Technique for Yakumo and deals more damage.

Additional Notes

Additionally, in NG+, you can unlock a special Charm that increases the damage of DDB, at the cost of Yakumo taking more damage.
