Select the most optimal difficulty for your new save file in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered with this difficulty settings guide.

The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered is now available with its own set of difficulty settings. Players are not only allowed to customize their characters but also the adventure they partake in. Tweaking the difficulty in the game lets you stay true to the experience. Since there is no “original” difficulty, you must educate yourself on all difficulty settings before starting your next game.
Difficulty Settings in Oblivion Remastered

When starting a new game, players will receive the following difficulty options to choose from:
- Novice
- Apprentice
- Adept
- Expert
- Master
Unlike other RPG games, the difficulty setting in the remastered Elder Scrolls game doesn’t dramatically impact the environment. However, it does greatly impact your gameplay experience. For example, the damage health and the damage received will be drastically altered based on the difficulty level you choose. Take a look at the table below to understand it better:
DIFFICULTY LEVEL | DAMAGE DEALT | DAMAGE TAKEN |
Novice | 2x | 0.5x |
Apprentice | 1.5x | 0.75x |
Adept | 1x | 1x |
Expert | 0.75x | 1.5x |
Master | 0.5x | 2x |
As you can see, at the Novice level, players deal twice the default damage while receiving only 0.5x of the intended damage from the enemy. These stats start changing as the difficulty level grows. Gradually, the damage dealt decreases while the damage taken increases. So, while you may feel like a boss at Novice, the Master difficulty will make you feel like a weakling for a huge part of the game until you gather gear that is powerful enough.
By default, players will have the Adept difficulty level set when starting Oblivion Remastered. It keeps things balanced, and we suggest this difficulty for players who are a little familiar with action RPGs like The Elder Scrolls but don’t have too much faith in their skills. The good part is that there are no difficulty level-based achievements/trophies that you have to complete for 100% completion. However, playing at a difficult level might help you reach the level cap faster in Oblivion Remastered.
