In Oblivion Remastered, you can miss many of the side quests if you don’t know how to trigger them. Missing these quests can result in never receiving their associated rewards. Also, many of the side missions have interesting storylines that you would want to experience. An Unexpected Voyage is one such side quest that you can complete very early in the game.

However, you don’t start the quest just by talking to a particular NPC. In this guide, we’ll explain exactly how you can begin the An Unexpected Voyage mission in Oblivion Remastered and what the mission involves.

To begin this particular quest, go to the Waterfront District in the Imperial City. Once you are there, you can find a boat with a board that says “The Bloated Float Inn” at the front. Enter this establishment. You will find the innkeeper Ormil inside. Speak to him and rent a bed for the night for just 10 gold. Then, proceed downstairs in the inn and find the room you rented. Go to sleep for at least a few hours. As soon as you wake up, the game will notify you that the An Unexpected Voyage mission has begun.

Defeating Lynch

Proceed outside the room to discover an armed and armored NPC named Lynch. He will inform you that a group of bandits known as the Blackwater Brigands has hijacked the boat. After some dialogue, you will need to take down Lynch and loot his body. The key you find will unlock the room next to yours, where the bandits are holding Graman Gro-Marad hostage.

Speaking to Graman Gro-Marad reveals that the boat is currently out at sea. However, he can commandeer it back to the Waterfront District. He is only ready to do so once you take out the remaining three members of the Blackwater Brigands aboard.

Defeating Lynx

Next, proceed to the upper deck of the boat to find the second member of the group, Minx. Speak with her to learn about the group’s leader named Selene. She is apparently holding Ormil hostage inside the main cabin of the boat. Fight Minx and take her down to receive a key to the Upper Deck of the boat.

Defeating Wrath

Continue to the Upper Deck and find another member of the Blackwater Brigands, Wrath, there. Speaking to him reveals that the group is on the boat to recover a hidden treasure called the Golden Galleon. Killing Wrath will finally give you the key to access the boat’s main cabin.

Dealing with Selene

Finally, go to the main cabin to find Selene inside. You can access it by going down to the Main Deck where you killed Minx. The door to the cabin is just behind the bar. Inside, you will need to talk to Selene. You can either convince her to surrender peacefully or fight her. If you have a high enough Speechcraft attribute and you have talked to the other three Blackwater Brigand members to get information, you will be able to convince Selene to stand down.

In that case, she’ll follow you to the quarters below, where you will need to lock her inside the room. If you fail to persuade her, you will need to kill her.

In either case, you will need to go back to your rented room on the boat after the encounter with Selene. Sleep for at least an hour to return to the Waterfront District. Speak to Ormil to conclude the quest and receive gold coins as a reward. The amount of coins you receive will vary based on your current level.
