Learn how to complete Oblivion Remastered’s unique ‘Caught in the Hunt’ quest, which traps you as prey in an isolated fort.
‘Caught in the Hunt’ is a Bravil-based quest in Oblivion Remastered featuring a thrilling twist. What begins as a mundane request to help a worried wife quickly spirals into a brutal game of surviving a bloodsport. Tricked into entering a secluded island fortress, you find yourself prey in a twisted hunt orchestrated by a ruthless orc. This guide walks you through every step of the quest—from tracking down the missing man to escaping the deadly trap and confronting the one who set it.
Caught in the Hunt Walkthrough – Oblivion Remastered
The quest begins when you hear rumors about Ursanne’s missing husband. Upon finding Ursanne and speaking with her, you learn that her husband, Aleron, owed an enormous debt to an Orc loan shark named Kurdan gro-Dragol.
Head over to the Lonely Suitor Lodge and talk to Kurdan gro-Dragol. If your disposition with him is above 60, he will talk about Aleron. If not, increase it by bribing him or playing the persuasion mini-game. Kurdan promises to reveal Aleron’s whereabouts if you head to Fort Grief and retrieve an heirloom axe.
Use Kurdan’s Boat docked outside the Lonely Suitor Lodge to fast-travel to Fort Grief’s island. Open the main gate by using the handle placed in front of it near the rubble. Once inside, you learn that Kurdan traps humanoid prey in Fort Grief and charges clients to hunt them down for bloodsport. Both you and Aleron are now stuck in the fort until the hunters are defeated and the fort’s key is retrieved from them.
Defeat the Hunters
Since Aleron can’t fight, you must venture into Hunter’s Run, the fort’s dungeon, and wipe them all out. Use sneak and move slowly to avoid traps and catch the hunters unawares. The Chameleon spell or potion is especially useful in this regard. Cast Clairvoyance if lost, and loot the hunters to find keys. Once all the hunters are defeated, head back outside to Fort Grief.
Confront Kurdan gro-Dragol
As you emerge from the dungeon, Kurdan gro-Dragol will kill Aleron. This event is scripted and cannot be prevented. If you speak with Kurdan, he will attack you, and a bow-wielding minion—Ra’jhera the Keeneye—will spawn to back him up. It is better to attack Kurdan as soon as you see him, as this has a chance to prevent Ra’jhera from spawning.
Breaking the Bad News
After defeating Kurdan, loot the orc to find the Fort Grief Real Key. Head into Hunter’s Run and open the first door on your left with the key. Turn the handle inside to unlock the fort’s main gate. Return to Ursanne to give her the unfortunate news about her husband. If you managed to keep Aleron safe from the hunters, you will gain 1 Fame point. Otherwise, 1 Infamy point awaits you. Ursanne will reward you with a Speechcraft skill book and a copy of Biography of the Wolf Queen.
