The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered’s main campaign is a fan favorite. It is filled with many memorable quests and moments that many still recall from the original title. The Defense of Bruma is one of those quests. During it, you will have to venture into a Great Oblivion Gate and collect a Great Sigil Stone by following Martin Septim’s plan.

It is not a difficult quest, but still, going into an Oblivion Gate can be a bit confusing. So, with that in mind, here is a complete walkthrough of the Defense of Bruma quest in Oblivion Remastered.

How To Complete the Defense of Bruma Quest in Oblivion Remastered

To unlock the Defense of Bruma quest, first, you will have to complete the Miscarcand storyline in Oblivion Remastered. Once you have the Great Welkynd Stone in your grasp, Martin Septim will reveal that you will also have to find a Great Sigil Stone. However, to get that, you will have to allow the Mythic Dawn to open the Great Oblivion Gate just outside Bruma.

After that, fast travel to Bruma. There, you will have to talk to the Countess of Bruma and make sure that she agrees to a meeting with Martin. Thankfully, she will agree because of your status as the Hero of Kvatch. She will then go to the Great Chapel of Talos, where the meeting will take place. Martin will be there already. When you are there, speak to both of them and tell the Countess that you are ready. However, doing so will end the Allies of Bruma side quest.

Wait for the Great Oblivion Gate to Open

Once you have said that you are ready, the battle will begin. Martin will then lead the frontline just outside of the Oblivion Gate near Bruma and deliver a short speech before the Daedra start attacking you. During this phase, all you have to do is survive and wait until the Great Oblivion Gate opens. Once it does, it will start the Gate mission and end the Defense of Bruma quest.

However, despite that, until you get the Great Sigil Stone, Bruma will remain under attack. So, enter the Great Oblivion Gate when it opens. Inside, you will see Oblivion Siege Engines going towards the exit of the gate. Now, this presents you with a time-bomb situation. Because during this chaos, you will have ten minutes in your hand to retrieve the Great Sigil Stone and close the gate. If you fail and those engines successfully make it to Cyrodiil, the game will be over.

Begin the Great Gate Quest

Right past the Great Gate, you will find a door that will lead you to one of the towers there. Enter through that door and go to the top of the tower. There will be another door on the top floor, which will open the next path. This newly opened path will take you to another tower. In the second tower, you will find yet another door on the floor you are on. Similar to the previous door, it will take you to the next tower, which is the third one.

Go downstairs in the Third Tower and exit through the door there. Outside, keep going further, and you will immediately notice the Siege Engines to your right. Eventually, you will come across a bridge with a gap. Jump to the other side and make your way through the enemies there. After that, keep going, and you will come across a locked gate that will deny entry to the Sigil Stone’s tower. But there will be a different tower there.

Take the Great Sigil Stone

Now, go inside the World Breaker Guard tower, and simply go straight to the top floor. There, you will find the switch that opens the locked gate you saw earlier. Use the switch and then go to the Sigil Stone’s tower. Additionally, don’t forget to keep track of how much time you have left.

Inside the tower, you will have to defeat the Sigil Keeper Daedra on the first floor. Once you have done so, take the Sigil Key from his body and keep going up until you come across the Sigil Stone Chamber. There will be quite a few enemies waiting there. You can engage in combat with them if you want. However, it is not necessary, as once you collect the Great Sigil Stone, the enemies will disappear, and the Great Gate will be shut.

After that, you will find yourself outside the gate. There, Martin Septim will congratulate you on your victory and tell you to go to the Cloud Ruler Temple. There you will be able to continue the main storyline.
