There’s a traitor in the guild. Here’s a guide explaining how to complete the Following a Lead quest in Oblivion Remastered.
Following a Lead is one of the main quests that progress the storyline for the Dark Brotherhood. This is one of the shorter quests compared to the rest. However, if you have been paying attention to the lore, many secrets get revealed in this mission, which makes it one of the more impactful missions in the Dark Brotherhood questline.
Here’s a simple walkthrough explaining how you can complete the Following a Lead quest in Oblivion Remastered.

Confrontation With Lucien in Oblivion Remastered
After you complete the fourth mission that involves a dead drop, Lucien Lachance confronts you by saying you are killing members of the Black Hand. In other words, all this time, you have been killing members of the guild who have hired you to do the job. Lucien knows something is fishy, so he plots to reveal who the traitor is during your next dead drop mission.
You must now head straight to Anvil to catch the dead drop messenger early this time. Near the Gates of Anvil, there is a water body with a mermaid statue. The barrel behind it is the drop-off location. You can see a Wood-elf drop the message off. His name is Enilroth, and you must confront him. He then informs you that the person you are looking for lives beneath the Anvil Lighthouse.
Finding the Traitor in Following a Lead Quest
Go to the lighthouse and head straight to the top floor. There, you are going to find an NPC named Ulfgar Fog-Eye. Tell him you are part of the Dark Brotherhood, and he will give you the key to the cellar. The cellar door is on the eastern side of the Anvil Lighthouse. Open it using the key and enter the basement.
Along the way, there is a single crazed dog that is going to attack you, so kill it. In the room, there are many things you need to take. Firstly, read the book in the room named Traitor’s Diary. There are details about the traitor and why they want to kill Lucien, along with other members of the Black Hand. Additionally, take the severed head off the pedestal. After that, you can take whatever you want and leave.

Death of Lucien Lachance in Oblivion Remastered
Your objective now is to go to the Applewatch Farmhouse, which is in Bryma. Moreover, you soon get informed that the surviving members have killed Lucien Lachance because they suspected him of being the traitor. You are then promoted and given Lucien’s job as the Speaker, including his cool and mysterious outfit.
You then have to join a ritual of the Dark Brotherhood. Wait till 3 am and talk to Arquen. The Following a Lead quest ends after you choose the “Night Mother” option, and you immediately start the next mission.
