In Oblivion Remastered, the titular forces of Oblivion invade the mortal plane through Oblivion Gates. However, an Oblivion Gate functions both ways, allowing the player to enter the Daedric plane through it. After fighting their way through Daedra and Dremora, you can close a gate by taking its Sigil Stone.

The first Oblivion Gate encounter in the game is in front of Kvatch Castle and is a part of the Breaking the Siege of Kvatch quest. After completing the quest, more Oblivion Gates begin to appear throughout Cyrodiil. While some of them are tied to the main story, the majority of them serve as optional dungeons to secure high-level loot and enchant equipment.

Every Oblivion Gate is powered by a powerful artifact known as a Sigil Stone. The Sigil Stone is located in the Sigillum Sanguis—the uppermost room—of the main tower, accessed through the gate. Activate and remove the Sigil Stone to close the Oblivion Gate its powers. Battling enemies inside the gate can be a steep challenge, especially at higher difficulties.

Be sure to level up and bring a sufficient supply of buffing and healing potions to clear them. You can also rush past most enemies and head straight to the top of the tower, especially if you use the Chameleon spell.

There are a few Oblivion Gates that have set locations, but the majority of them appear at random locations. You will find the greatest concentration of Oblivion Gates around major cities. They are easy to spot as large portals containing an image of a fiery realm at their core. Oblivion Gates scorch the surrounding land and cast a red hue across the sky as you approach. When you discover one while exploring Cyrodiil, it’s automatically marked on your map.
