If you’re enjoying Oblivion Remastered but find the lack of a companion system like Skyrim to be a drawback, don’t fret. In Oblivion Remastered, you can recruit followers to tag along with you on your journey. While the options aren’t as varied as in Skyrim, you can still get some fun characters to accompany you. However, the game doesn’t clearly explain how to hire or recruit these followers. And with just three of them in the entire game, it might take you a while to discover this mechanic on your own. So, in this guide, we’ll explore how you can recruit followers in Oblivion Remastered.

How To Recruit Followers in Oblivion Remastered

You can recruit three followers in the game: the Adoring Fan, a Mage Apprentice, or a Knight of the Nine. Keep in mind that you can only have one follower accompanying you at a time. Let’s see how you can unlock each of these followers in the game.

The Adoring Fan

If you’re in a hurry, we suggest recruiting the Adoring Fan. To do this, you’ll need to head to the Imperial City Arena. Once there, speak to the Arena Master to start fighting in the Arena. As you defeat your opponents in each round, you’ll gradually rise through the ranks. The final fight in the Arena will make you the Grand Champion. After becoming the Grand Champion, exit the Arena to find and talk to the Adoring Fan. You can ask him to follow you around. Even if you didn’t recruit him initially, you can return and find him waiting for you outside the Arena. So, you can recruit him at any time after this point.

Knight of the Nine

To recruit a Knight of the Nine, you’ll first need to complete an entire questline that involves restarting a religious order. Follow the steps below to get a Knight of the Nine as your follower:

  • Step 1: Find the Prophet in Anvil and talk to him to start the Pilgrimage quest.
  • Step 2: Visit all nine wayshrines devoted to each of the Nine Divines.
  • Step 3: Defeat Umaril the Unfeathered in the final stage of the questline.
  • Step 4: Go to the Priory of the Nine to recruit any of the knights there.

You can only have one of the Knights of the Nine following you at a time. The Knight of the Nine is a great fighter who can help you take on more challenging opponents in the game.

The Apprentice Mage follower is the trickiest to unlock. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Step 1: Speak to the Guild Masters of all seven Mages Guild centers across Tamriel and complete the quests given by each.
  • Step 2: Get admitted to the Arcane University in the Imperial City and speak with Raminus Polus.
  • Step 3: Complete the four quests that Raminus Polus gives you to gain access to the Arch-Mage.
  • Step 4: Complete the seven quests that Arch-Mage Hannibal Traven gives you.

After that, you’ll become the Arch-Mage. This will give you the ability to speak to any of the Mage Apprentices roaming the halls of the Arcane University and recruit them as your followers.

These are the only three available options when you want to recruit followers in Oblivion Remastered.
