During the Shivering Isles DLC in Oblivion Remastered, players will quickly realize that two distinctively different regimes separate the lands around them. One of them commands the bright region of Mania, while the other holds the dark region of Dementia. Additionally, players will have to choose which side deserves their favor as they progress through the story. Eventually, they will also get the opportunity to become the Duke/Duchess of Mania or Dementia as part of the Ritual of Accession.

In this guide, we will walk you through the Ritual of Mania quest in Oblivion Remastered. It allows you to take the throne of the Mania region in the Shivering Isles DLC.

How To Complete The Ritual of Mania Quest in Oblivion Remastered

Speak to Sheogorath to start the Duke of Mania quest (Image via Bethesda)

To start the Ritual of Mania quest in Oblivion Remastered, you will have to complete the Cold Flame of Agnon mission first. After that, speak to Sheogorath, and he will tell you to meet Arctus and Dervenin. These two individuals will then reveal the next part of the story, which is the Ritual of Accession. Once you learn about this new development, go back to Sheogorath and pick the Duke of Mania option to start the Ritual of Mania quest.

Your primary objective during this storyline is quite simple. You will have to get rid of the Duke of Mania, Thadon, and take his place. However, to do that, you will need to follow some specific steps.

First, speak to Dervenin again. He will send you to Wide-Eye, who is usually around the Throne Room, the Halcyon Conservatory, or somewhere in Bliss. After finding her, raise her disposition to 70 or above, and only then ask her about Thadon. She will then tell you about Greenmote, which is key to successfully removing the Duke from his seat.

Obtain The Greenmote

Now, wait till the clock strikes 3 P.M., and then follow Wide-Eye to a statue in the northeast of the Palace Courtyard. After reaching the location, she will proceed to activate the statue and reveal a hidden path. This newly opened passage will take you to a cave named the Greenmote Silo. Furthermore, you will find guards inside the secret cave. You can then challenge them in direct combat or stealthily go past them.

After that, keep moving deeper into the area, and you will eventually stumble across a pile of Greenmote. Take two doses of the poisonous drug and head out of the area.

Now, go to Thadon’s Quarters. Then go west to find the kitchen there. Then add one dose of the Greenmote into the duke’s food and the other dose into his wine in the cupboard. You then must go into the Throne Room of Mania around eight in the afternoon. The Duke and Wide-Eye will be present there, enjoying their meal. Take a seat and wait for Thadon to die of the poison.

After that, collect his blood and report back to Sheogorath. He will be at the Sacellum Arden-Sul. There will be an altar there. All you have to do is place the late duke’s blood on it, and a cutscene will begin. Speak to Sheogorath again once it ends, and you will become the new Duke of Mania and complete the quest in Oblivion Remastered.
