The Dark Brotherhood is a twisted organization that sends you out on murder missions, reducing Cyrodiil’s population one assassination at a time. While the organization specializes in death, The Assassinated Man quest is one that subverts their ideology.
In The Assassinated Man, the Dark Brotherhood requests you to stage an assassination in order to save a life. This change in philosophy adds a ton of depth to the Brotherhood while also preventing their quests from falling into repetition.
The Assassinated Man side quest requires you to stage the death of Francois Motierre. Motierre is drowning in debt, and the wrong crowd is now after his life. To help the man find freedom, you have to stage his assassination. This is one of the most unique quests in the game, and if you’ve hit any roadblock, we’re here to walk you through it. How To Complete The Assassinated Man Quest in Oblivion Remastered
You begin this Dark Brotherhood questline by talking to Vicente Valtieri in the Sanctuary in Cheydinhal. Valtieri will give you the details of the job, informing you that you have to stage the assassination of Francois Motierre in front of an enforcer.
Accept the contract and head over to the city of Chorrol. Break into Motierre’s house by picking the main door lock, and you will immediately be greeted by Motierre. Motierre tells you of his situation, informing you that an enforcer named Hides-His-Heart is on his way to kill him.
The plan is simple: you have to cut Motierre with a poisoned knife and ensure that the enforcer witnesses the act. Motierre’s “corpse” will then be transferred to the Chorrol Chapel Undercroft, where you will administer the antidote to revive him.

As the enforcer enters the house, stab Motierre with the poisoned knife and bail before the enforcer catches you. Do not kill the enforcer. Wait a day and head to the undercroft to find Motierre’s body. Administer the antidote, and he will wake up. Since you revived Motierre, the corpses of his ancestors feel disrespected and rise to kill him. Defend Motierre and escort him to the Gray Mare. Return to Valtieri and inform him of a job well done to complete the quest.
