Eustass “Captain” Kid was an infamous pirate from South Blue and was the captain of the Kid Pirates. He is one of the twelve other pirates who are referred to as the “Worst Generation”. Before he challenged Shanks, Kid had improved his power levels and had his first huge fight at Wano Arc, with Big Mom alongside Trafalgar Law (Captain of Heart Pirates). His victory over a Yonko gave him the confidence to challenge another—Shanks, the Red-Haired Emperor.

After Wano, the Kid Pirates decided to head to Elbaf. That is where they had the encounter with Shanks. Unlike other fights, there was no buildup or provocation. Kid decided to take on Shanks with utmost confidence that he could defeat Shanks with the newfound powers he used to defeat Big Mom. This confrontation meant that both the crew were walking in blind relying solely on their strength in themselves and their crew.

Also, Eustass Kid had to prove to himself that he could defeat a Yonko by himself. This fight was symbolic as the fight was between the old and the new generation of pirates defending their honor and status.

Shanks’ Power and Reputation

Shanks has been a well-kept secret in the world of One Piece. We know that he is one of the Yonko, meaning he is one of the four emperors of the sea. People recognize him for his mastery of Haki and consider him to be the most powerful pirate in the world.

His swordsman skills are overwhelmingly amazing. Even Whitebeard and Mihawk acknowledge Shanks and do not clash with him if the situation does not demand it. Moreover, his Conqueror’s Haki and Obervasional Haki are the main sources of his fighting skills as he highly relies on them.

People say he can determine the outcome of a fight before it even begins, which proves true as he immediately assesses Kid as a threat and lunges forward to attack. This extraordinary foresight of his gives us an idea as to why he is so fears of the sea. Also, as a Yonko, he commands a powerful crew who respect and are loyal to him.

Kid’s Growth and Fighting Style

Eustass Kid has the power of the devil fruit called Jiki Jiki no Mi (Magnet-Magnet Fruit). It is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, which gives him the power to manipulate magnetic forces. His fighting style is him just charging ahead in a fight. He is unpredictable and a great strategist, during an ongoing fight Kid would rely on his raw explosive strength and the power of his devil fruit.

After his character was first introduced to us, he faced numerous challenges which have helped him grow. This includes him fighting with other pirates who also come under the category of the worst generation and the Yonko. He has relentlessly worked to become stronger, which we can see. In every battle he encountered Kid made sure to give his best and always pushed him to surpass his limits.

The only thing that got him to lose against Shanks was his overconfidence. Despite his impressive growth, Kid’s experience and power were still not equal to Shanks. The fight in Elbaf was an important test of his progress. It measured how far he had come and how much he still needed to improve.

The Clash: A Battle of Haki and Strength

Coming to the battle, in simple terms it could be described as swift and decisive. The immense gap between their power level gave no chance for Kid to win. Shanks launched a single devastating attack called Divine Departure (Kamurasari). It was his sword fused with his Conqueror’s Haki. With a single blow, he was able to break down the wall of defense of Eustass Kid and incapacitate him and his crew.

This battle showed us the importance of having a strong mastery of Haki. Kid being blessed with a strong devil fruit power did not stand a chance in front of someone with strong Haki. It would also mean that from now on, one should also be adept at using Haki, as powers of devil fruit might not be enough for one to win against strong opponents.

Shanks’ ability to finish the battle in one blow reaffirmed his dominance and sent a message of reality check for the new generation to not feel superior just because they won against a Yonko.

The Outcome and Its Impact on the Story

We know the outcome of this battle was that Eustass Kid lost without being able to retaliate. Dorry and Brogy’s Hakoku knocked out his crew and destroyed his ship. Shanks humbled Kid with his swift victory, highlighting the immense power of the Yonko.

While talking about Kid’s future in finding One Piece is not out of the question, he lost his ship. This currently throws him out of the competition. Shanks still held on to his status as one of the most powerful figures in the world. He casually demonstrated that the new generation still had a long way to go before they could take over the Yonko.

And now, while coming into the Final Saga, we got an idea of how much Luffy and his crew would have to work hard. They would definitely face powerful opponents. It served as a reminder that the path to the One Piece is fraught with danger. Only the strongest will survive.

Conclusion

The battle was not just a clash of strength. It was a fight between two generations, a symbolic passing of the torch. The new generations show great promise while the old ones still stand tall enough to make others work for it before passing the torch. As now the journey ahead will be hard and unforgiving we can only assume that from now on only the strongest will survive.

We need to understand this fight for Eustass Kid was needed. The defeat was a humbling experience, a catalyst for future growth. Whereas, for Shanks, it was a reinforcement of his status as one of the most powerful figures in the world.
