The OnlyFangs World of Warcraft (WoW) guild suffered seemingly targeted DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks on March 23, 2025. The streamer-only guild was in the middle of a raid in World of Warcraft’s Hardcore mode, and the DDoS attacks caused many players to die and lose progress. After OnlyFangs founder and Twitch streamer Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris stated that he would shut down the server, WoW developer Blizzard Entertainment announced a server rollback to restore the characters.

For readers unfamiliar with OnlyFangs, it is an invite-only guild that Sodapoppin founded in 2023. The players play on a Hardcore-only server where deaths can completely wipe progress. Players who die can transfer their characters to Normal mode, but they are locked out of Hardcore permanently unless they make a new character.

With dozens of streamers losing access to their characters after the DDoS attacks, Sodapoppin wanted to shut down the server as there was no way to guarantee a similar incident would not happen. With Blizzard Entertainment willing to restore progress for the players, OnlyFangs might make a return with its events.

Will Blizzard Entertainment Salvage OnlyFangs’ Lost Progress?

Blizzard Entertainment community manager Kaivax made an official announcement on March 25, 2025. After assessing the recent DDoS attacks on OnlyFangs and other guilds, Blizzard has decided to potentially revive Hardcore characters. The announcement states:

“Recently, we have experienced unprecedented distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that impacted many Blizzard game services, including Hardcore realms, with the singular goal of disrupting players’ experiences.”

The community manager talked about how malicious attacks should not disrupt Hardcore players from experiencing the game. To remedy the attacks, Blizzard is willing to revive characters:

“In the future, Blizzard may elect – at our sole discretion – to revive Hardcore characters that perish in a mass event which we deem inconsistent with the integrity of the game, such as a DDoS attack. Our broader stance on character restorations or death appeals has not changed. To be clear, we do not intend to revive characters which have died due to server disconnects, lag spikes, gameplay bugs, or any other reasons. Blizzard Customer Support cannot assist with issues related to characters who have died on Hardcore realms.”

Will Sodapoppin Restart His Guild After Blizzard’s Announcement?

Sodapoppin had announced that he plans to shut down the OnlyFangs server. The guild has stopped all events, and streamers who lost their accounts were asked to move to other guilds. If Blizzard restores all the affected accounts, OnlyFangs might make a comeback.

Sodapoppin addressed the attacks on the OnlyFangs Discord server, saying:

“So clearly the DDOS attacks are centered on us. Ive reached out for potential rollback, but its highly unlikely and i wouldnt hope for it. So many of us died but we still have people that can play, regardless though i dont feel comftorable dragging people through getting world buffs, flasks and consumes etc. just to raid with the anxiety and probably the actuality of just being DDOSd again and dying. So with that, id expect ONLYFANGS is over.”

The streamer said he is open to resuming the server, provided there are safeguards against the DDoS attacks, like account rollbacks. He has not shared his plans for OnlyFangs’ future following Blizzard’s announcement so far.
