This Outer Worlds 2 guide will walk you through the For Whom the Bridge Tolls quest, a side quest in Paradise Island.
The world of Outer Worlds 2 is engulfed in faction wars, and you get to witness this firsthand in the For Whom the Bridge Tolls side quest. In this quest, Senior Warden Weintraut’s cousin has joined the Auntie’s Choice faction, and she now has to make an example out of her own family to prove her loyalty to the Protectorate. The faction war turns family against family, and in this guide, we’re going to walk you through this turmoil of a quest from start to finish.

How To Complete For Whom the Bridge Tolls in Outer Worlds 2
Unlocking the Quest
You begin this quest by talking to Senior Warden Weintraut at the Bridge of the Reverent. Senior Warden Weintraut is seeking two traitors, and if you bring them to her, she will grant you passage across the bridge. Your goal, therefore, is to bring Charlton Weintraut and Ida Rutledge to the bridge.
Finding Ida Rutledge
To find Ida Rutledge, you need to head to Spire Grove. As you head to this area, you’ll hear rumblings from the large tower, after which a man will jump off and plummet to his death. Interact with this man’s corpse, and you’ll kick off the “A Final Death for Gravity” side quest.
Talk to the people at the top of the tower and ask them about Ida Rutledge. They’ll reveal that Ida met a fate similar to the man who jumped off, and is now long dead. Check the conveyor belt on your left, and you’ll find Ida’s severed arm there. Pick this up to complete this objective.

Finding Charlton Weintraut
To find Charlton, you have to head to Westport. Enter the plaza, and you’ll find Charlton near the benches to the left. Talk to Charlton and use Speech: 3 to convince him to go to the bridge. If you don’t have this skill, you have to head to Charlton’s Home and investigate to discover the truth about his addiction. You can then use this information to trick Charlton into visiting the bridge.
Once that’s done, return to the bridge and talk to Senior Warden Weintraut to complete the quest. This will net you the following rewards:
- 2160 XP
- Passage through the Bridge of the Reverent.
