The Mesa biome is split into three regions with their own geographical characteristics, mechanics, and entities. The first half of the biome is relatively flat ground, with little climbing involved. After completing this section, you will have to cross the Canyon to enter the second half, which features mountainous terrain. This guide outlines all the items, entities, and characteristics of each region, along with tips on how to approach them.

PEAK: All Regions of the Mesa Biome

All regions of the Mesa share a few common features, including desert terrain, a healthy spread of cacti, and heat damage during the day. Apart from that, the different parts of the

The first half of the Mesa biome is characterized by undulating terrain with minimal variation in altitude. It contains the following features:

  • Tornadoes
  • Mirages
  • Antlions
  • Tumbleweed
  • Tomb and Ancient Idol

The antlion is the most dangerous entity in the Mesa, and it resides in the first half of the biome. The giant creature lures players by placing a luggage bag at the bottom of a pit and springing out when its victim falls inside. The first region is also home to mirages of luggage and capybara pools, illusions that disappear when approached.

Tumbleweeds spawn in this region, rolling toward players and knocking them back on impact. Tornadoes only appear in the first part of the Mesa and do not cross the Canyon. If you are being chased by one, crossing the Canyon is your best chance to survive.

The final feature of the first half is the Tomb and the Ancient Idol within. You can locate the entrance to the tomb through a pit in the ground. There is only a 50% chance that the Tomb will spawn on a map, and knowing the map region it is located in narrows down the search area significantly.

Canyon: Middle

The Canyon is a wide chasm featuring rocky outcrops and ridges. It serves as the halfway point of the Mesa biome and divides it into two distinct parts. The main challenge of the Canyon is crossing it. Here, players can get creative with the Scout Cannon, Rope Gun, or extreme parkour to cross over to the other side.

However, descending into the Canyon has its own perks. Its lower levels contain ample luggage bags scattered across its length, with valuable loot inside. At the same time, the lower area is teeming with scorpions and cactus balls. Venturing into the Canyon is worth it if you are running low on supplies.

Mountain: Second Half

The second half of the Mesa features steep mountainous terrain. It is home to:

  • Dynamite
  • Scorpions
  • Mineshafts
  • Mushrooms
  • Pickaxes

Scorpions and dynamite are scattered throughout the cliffs of the mountain in the Mesa biome. Both are throwable but deadly if you get too close and react too slowly. Dynamite also booby-traps Mineshafts, which contain luggage bags for daring adventurers. Pickaxes are embedded on the sides of cliffs and act like pitons, helping you recover stamina while climbing. However, they break if you hold on for too long.
