The Mesa is a desert biome with canyon-like geography that adds to the danger with its environmental hazards. The third level of PEAK, Mesa is especially designed to trick and trap players with features such as mirages and antlion pits. One deception that players least anticipate lies in its mineshafts. While mineshafts offer valuable supplies to weary Scouts, they are also rigged with an explosive surprise.

How To Find Mineshafts in PEAK

Like much of the biome, mineshafts are randomly generated according to the map seed for the day. They generally appear on the sides of mountains or near cliffs and contain luggage bags filled with an assortment of supplies.

When mineshafts are suspended beside cliffs, use tools like a Rope Cannon or Scout Cannon to enter them. If their front and back entrances are blocked by terrain, you can also try entering them from the top, through a square shaft descending into them.

Mineshafts have minecart rails running through their length, with corridors branching out on each side. The mineshaft’s supplies are located within these corridors. However, mineshafts always contain dynamite, which is rigged to explode upon entry.

How To Clear the Mineshafts of Dynamite

Once you venture into a mineshaft, you can hear the dynamite’s fuse burning. These explosives are powerful, causing knockback even through walls, and you only have seconds to act once they are primed. Try to get a good look at the mineshaft’s interior before entering. Besides the luggage bags and loot, attempt to locate the dynamite if it is visible from the outside.

Trigger the Dynamite

If the dynamite isn’t clearly visible from the outside, you will have to trigger it and escape. Decide on a path you will take out of the mineshaft when the dynamite’s fuse starts burning. Then, charge into it, triggering all the dynamite inside, and retreat.

A massive explosion will engulf the entire mineshaft. Then, you can safely enter it and search for loot. You can also drop food inside the mineshaft after triggering the dynamite, before running out. This will cook the food and provide greater hunger replenishment. Yes, PEAK has dynamite-based cooking.

Throw the Dynamite

If the dynamite is visible and you’re feeling adventurous, throwing it out of the mineshaft is also an option. Press the interact key to pick up the dynamite and hold it to charge a throw. The longer you hold the key, the farther the dynamite will be thrown, indicated by a gauge filling up. Since you might have to throw two bundles of dynamite, only charge the throw below the halfway mark on the gauge.
