The Mesa biome in PEAK is filled with environmental hazards and survival threats that can end a scout’s journey prematurely. One unexpectedly serious threat to emerge from the desert is the scorpion. While their small size and slow gait may not cause a player to flee, these eight-legged creatures pack a punch with their stinger’s poison damage.

Scorpions can be picked up, which only makes it easier for curious players to get stung. However, it is simple to avoid and counter scorpions after learning a few tricks, and they can even become a resource during playthroughs.

How Does Scorpions Work in PEAK?

Scorpions spawn frequently in the Mesa biome at night. They are territorial and start crawling toward any player who gets too close. Their movement speed is slow, but their small size and dark brown color make them effectively camouflaged. If a scorpion gets close to a player, it will charge its stinger for an attack and deal significant poison damage, potentially depleting a quarter of the health bar.

To pick up a scorpion, approach it and press the interact button (E). When picked up, a scorpion will prepare to attack. As it pulls its stinger back, it shines briefly before stabbing the player and dealing poison damage. To avoid getting stung, hold “E” again after picking up the scorpion to charge a throw. Since you have little time before the scorpion stings, execute the throw by releasing “E” when the gauge is nearly halfway full.

Recovering From Scorpion Poison

Recover from poison damage using items like Antidote and Cure All. They are often found in luggage bags scattered around the Mesa and within its mineshafts. However, some of the luggage bags seen from afar are mirages, which disappear when you approach them. If no cure is available for the poison, continue climbing, and the effect will wear off over time.

How To Cook Scorpions in PEAK

Scorpions can become a food source for resourceful players who manage to create the right conditions for cooking them. To cook a scorpion, detonate dynamite near it. Doing so will turn it into a “Well-Done Scorpion.” You can then eat the Well-Done Scorpion to replenish hunger or store it for later.

However, opportunities to create Well-Done Scorpions are rare. A dynamite’s fuse ignites as soon as you get near it, so it can’t be carried for later use. You will either have to throw a scorpion at primed dynamite or throw dynamite at the scorpion.
