PirateSoftware speaks out after his removal from the OnlyFangs WoW Classic Hardcore guild, addressing the backlash and hate he received.
In a recent update on the OnlyFangs WoW Classic Hardcore guild drama, Jason “PirateSoftware” addressed the community following his removal by Sodapoppin. Jason posted a 500-word tweet addressing the hate and overall drama. In the tweet, Jason stated that he will be “washing his hands” of the situation after compiling it in the tweet. Pirate stated that there are a lot of weird attack posts and the community is taking it too far. Jason began the tweet with:
“This OnlyFangs stuff actually sucks. Lots of weird attack posts and people taking it too far. Putting everything in one place and washing my hands of it after this.”
PirateSoftware then went ahead to address the Dire Maul run, where he and his raid group made several mistakes. Jason abandoned the entire crew after the call to back out was made. However, the crew kept attacking the boss, and two members ended up dying. Jason stated that he felt like he could not save anyone else with the resources at his disposal. He said that after the call was made to run, he got out as quickly as possible. He then called out Yamato, the streamer and guild member who made the call, for pinning the whole situation on him.
“To start, here is the response about the Dire Maul run. From my perspective I didn’t feel I could save anyone else with the resources I had left even with mana gem and robe cooldowns. Since the call to run was made I followed the call and got out as quickly as possible. If you call RUN RUN RUN then everything after that is a sh*tshow. Yamato pinned the entire thing on me despite everyone making mistakes and this rapidly spiraled into attacks both on and offline.”
Pirate later went on to state that for the past few days since the drama, he has been getting tens of thousands of messages. The messages include death threats, doxing, and berating messages directed at PirateSoftware. He listed several social media platforms where he received messages and also mentioned that he received VoIP-initiated phone calls. Pirate also attached a link in his tweet with examples of messages he has reported to Blizzard.
PirateSoftware Defends Against Targeted Attacks and Hate Raids
Pirate asked the community what actions should be taken after receiving hate messages. Jason, alongside his staff of moderators, ended up reporting and banning over 10,000 accounts and users. He claimed that all the responses from the community were part of an “organized hate raid.”
“So what do you do in this situation? You start reporting it and banning people. We took the 10,000+ attack accounts and reported them up for the organized hate raid that this is.”
PirateSoftware claims that the hate raids have disrupted the broadcasts for three days across all platforms. He mentioned that the staff has set up automated bots for deleting the hate messages.
” It disrupted our broadcast on all platforms for the last 3 days and prevented our community from doing anything. That’s a hate raid no matter how you slice it and it needs to be reported. We also setup automation to shut down the First Message Last Message sh*t stirring posts which worked to mostly positive effect.”
Overall, the reactions from the community and fellow streamers about the situation have been critical toward PirateSoftware. Many believe the situation could have been avoided if Jason had taken responsibility. Although Jason still defends his stance on the situation, many have called him out for his behavior over the matter. Tyler1, who is now the effective guild leader after Sodapoppin died in the game, made a video reacting to the drama.
