The Pittsburgh Regionals have concluded, including a Pokemon GO tournament. Since the 2025 Pokemon World Championships took place, these Regionals have been a great way to gauge the current meta trends. In this article, we will discuss the Pokemon that saw a high percentage of use at the Pittsburgh Regionals and break down why.

These Pokemon saw the highest usage at the end of Day 2 at the Pittsburgh Regionals:

7) Forretress (18.8%)

Forrtress has an amazing typing, leaving it with only one weakness to Fire. As Fire is relatively rare at higher levels of play, this lets this Johto mon come in freely quite often and spam Bug Bite. Even Fire-types have to be wary of their Charged Attacks, which hit them super effectively.

Pokemon GO has often seen not fully evolved (NFE) Pokemon being pretty great in the meta. Charjabug is one of them, acting as a consistent damage dealer. This is partially due to having a great Fast Attack for energy generation in Volt Switch. But what also helps it is that both its preferred Charged Attacks, X-Scissor and Discharge, have low energy costs. As such, it is able to constantly throw out damaging moves.

Marowak used to be a sub-par pick in Pokemon GO. That changed with an update to Mud Slap and Bone Club, making it one of the best Ground-types in the meta. Shadow Marowak is preferred due to its higher damage output.

Galarian Moltres faces stiff competition from Mandibuzz as the best Dark/Flying type in the meta. Additionally, it may struggle against Fighting-types due to its best Fast Attack being Sucker Punch. However, it has much better offensive stats than Mandibuzz, with Sucker Punch dealing more damage to neutral targets and Brave Bird almost guaranteeing a KO.

Much like Forretress, Gastrodon also has a single weakness. This weakness to Grass can be easily played around, letting Gastrodon excel as a lead. Additionally, it prefers not to use any Charged Ground-type attacks, as Body Slam can be used to bait Shields, and Water Pulse deals STAB damage.

Galarian Corsola is maybe the best Ghost-type in the meta right now. It makes good use of its bulk and typing to take hits. However, it can also exert decent offensive pressure thanks to its Fast Attack Astonish.

Cradily is one of the most dominant Pokemon in the meta. A lot of this comes down to its typing of Rock/Grass, which hits a lot of Pokemon for neutral damage. This makes it the most common Grass-type in the GO Battle League. It has a few drawbacks, such as a weak Fast Attack and high-energy generation Charged Attacks, but its teammates can help.
