Explore the top six major happenings in Pokemon GO in May 2025, including events, new Raids, Debuts, and much more.

May in Pokemon GO usually brings plenty of content. But this time, there’s even more to pay attention to. Whether you focus on battles, evolutions, raids, or just catching new species, there’s something coming up that will impact how you play. Here’s a guide to help you make sense of what’s ahead and what you can get out of it.
1. Gigantamax Machamp in Pokemon GO

If you are interested in high-impact Fighting-types, note down May 25, 2025. From 2 to 5 pm local time, Gigantamax Machamp will be active in its own Max Battle slot. This version of Machamp offers access to G-Max Chi Strike. Unlike other Fighting-type Max Moves, this one deals significantly more damage, making it a major threat in specific battle formats.
It’s also worth noting that Dynamax Machamp doesn’t have access to Chi Strike, so this release introduces something entirely new. Use this window if you want to try out Machamp in its most powerful state so far.
2. Debut of Kingambit in Pokemon GO

Kingambit won’t be something you can just find in the wild. If you want to add it to your collection, make sure you are ready to put in a bit of effort during the Crown Clash event. You will need a Bisharp as your buddy and take down 15 Dark- or Steel-types in Raids.
This evolution method means you will have to be selective and time your play. Keep in mind the event’s timeframe: May 10 to May 18, 2025, 10 am to 8 pm local time. Crown-wearing versions of Nidoking and Nidoqueen will also appear during the same event, so there’s a bonus visual change to look forward to as well.
3. Meet Dynamax Suicune in Pokemon GO

On May 10 and 11, 2025, Suicune will appear in its Dynamax form for the first time. These two days are part of a short Max Battle Weekend, so don’t wait too long to participate. There’s also the potential to catch a Shiny version.
There are additional benefits running from May 5 to May 11. Max Particle gains will increase, and Power Spots will refresh faster than usual. If you are building up your Max Move strategy or looking to boost particle counts, this weekend will make that process more efficient.
4. Pokemon GO Growing Up Event

Some evolutions take more time and effort than others. If you have ever been stuck trying to evolve a Magikarp, Wailmer, or Swablu, you will want to participate in the Growing Up event. From May 2 to May 8, 2025, you will find their unevolved forms appearing more often.
This means you can finally speed up progress toward completing your evolution decks. Shiny rates for some of these Pokemon will also see a boost, which adds extra incentive to keep checking your encounters.
5. Mega Kangaskhan Will Appear Again

On May 3, 2025, Mega Kangaskhan will return to Pokemon GO with special Mega Raids from 2 to 5 pm. This time around, there’s an extra twist: Kangaskhan caught during the event will know the Charged Move Stomp.
Though Stomp isn’t the strongest move available, it still adds variety to your lineup. Since the Mega form already offers high bulk and decent raid utility, getting this exclusive move might uplift your strategy if you use Kangaskhan often.
6. Shadow Dialga and Team GO Rocket Takeover

From May 14 to May 18, 2025, the Crown Clash: Taken Over event will focus on Team GO Rocket activities. Shadow Dialga will be the centerpiece of this event, available through a Special Research story that grants a Super Rocket Radar to track down Giovanni. You will be able to claim this research until June 3, giving you plenty of time to pursue Shadow Dialga.
During the event, Team GO Rocket will appear more often at PokeStops and in balloons. You can use Charged TMs to help Shadow Pokemon forget Frustration. A wider variance in Attack, Defense, and HP for Pokemon caught in Shadow Raids adds an extra element to each encounter. Several new Shadow Pokemon, including Shadow Slakoth and Shadow Tyrunt, will also be introduced. If you want a big change in your Raid teams, this is an event to watch closely.
