Pokemon Legends Z-A has introduced some amazing new features. Some of the older features were given a fresh coat of paint. However, others included quality of life improvements that make gameplay more enjoyable. So, in this article, let’s analyze which features should go on to become a staple of the Pokemon franchise mainline games from here on.

5 Features From Pokemon Legends Z-A That Need To Be in Future Games

These features from Legends Z-A have been positively received and deserve to come back in future games in the Pokemon franchise:

  • Early access to Evolution Stones
  • Re-usable TMs
  • EV Resetter
  • Clothing options for both male and female trainers
  • Lost Pokeball retriever

5) Early Access to Evolution Stones

This feature tends to come and go. From all the way back in Generation I, you could buy the Evolution Stones to evolve certain Pokemon fairly quickly. But later on, getting your hands on these Stones can be quite tricky. However, Legends Z-A lets you purchase some of the Stones (Thunder, Water, Fire, and Leaf) pretty early at the Stone Emporium. By making these items easily available early on, it becomes easier for players to use Pokemon like Eevee instead of having to wait.

4) Re-usable TMs

TMs (Technical Machines) used to teach Pokemon moves outside their level-up learnset used to be one time only items until Generation IV. This changed from Generation V and up to Generation VII, players could use TMs as many times as they wanted. However, the developers started to backtrack in the Generation VIII games Sword and Shield by introducing Technical Records, which were one-time use in addition to TMs and locking some of the more powerful moves behind them. And in Scarlet and Violet, TMs became breakable one-time use items again.

Pokemon Legends Z-A made TMs reusable again. Granted, they cut several moves from the game although that appears to have been more for balance for the new real time combat system. However, seeing that players have been able to customize their Pokemon’s moves more easily in Legends Z-A, there’s no reason for TMs to be one-time use items again.

3) EV Resetter

EVs (Effort Values) are invisible points that your Pokemon collect while battling. These points, while not very useful during in-game playthrough, are vital for the competitive scene. In order to bring out the best of their Pokemon, players will need to optimize their EV spreads. Usually, this involves using berries and calculations outside of what’s present in the game to clear away what EVs your Pokemon have acquired while battling as different Pokemon give different EVs.

In Legends Z-A, there is an NPC in the Rust Syndicate base who will clear all of your Pokemon’s acquired EVs so that you can retrain them. This easy way of clearing out unwanted EVs will make it more feasible for casual players to try the competitive scene.

2) Clothing Options for Both Male and Female Trainers

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were severely lacking when it came to character customization. Legends Z-A fixes this by offering a wide variety of clothes for the player to choose from. It even goes so far as to amend a mistake from Pokemon X and Y, the last games set in the Kalos region. In those games, the female character had far more clothing options compared to the male character. However, in Legends Z-A now both characters can wear any outfit they want with plenty of choices. This should carry over into all games going forward without locking the player into a default outfit like they did in Scarlet and Violet.

1) Lost Pokeball Retriever

In every single Pokemon game before this, if you failed to catch a Pokemon with a Pokeball or any of its variations, that Pokeball was lost forever. Pokemon Legends Z-A is the first game to address this. In front of each Pokemon Center, there is an NPC who will collect all the balls that you may have lost while trying to catch a Pokemon with a low catch rate. And this service is completely free. This quality of life feature is immensely helpful and should be present in every game from here on out.
